Chronic wasting disease continues to spread Disease of cervids causing local population declines

So what do we Terry? Spend $1million a year like the mn dnr on survelliance and sharpshooting? Kill off all the deer in areas to 'slow' the spread. And if you're in that area, tough luck? Would the number of new cancer victims drop if half the worlds population died? Should we be spending more money and try to find a cure? Or just keep shelling out bullets to kill the deer before they die?
I thought this paragraph in one of your links was interesting.

The World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has recognized the United States as negligible risk for BSE. As noted in the OIE guidelines for determining this status, atypical BSE cases do not impact official BSE risk status recognition as this form of the disease is believed to occur spontaneously in all cattle populations at a very low rate. Therefore, this finding of an atypical case will not change the negligible risk status of the United States, and should not lead to any trade issues.

I have a question flounder9. If I want a deer I shot tested for CWD or if anyone else wanted a test how or where can this be done at?

I have a question flounder9. If I want a deer I shot tested for CWD or if anyone else wanted a test how or where can this be done at?

Ishi, i am not sure if Iowa DNR et al are individually testing all hunter kills for cwd.

i know they have permitted hunts for cwd sample testing, for that particular hunter area, but for the hole state of Iowa, for anyone, anytime, to just to be able to waltz in somewhere and have a cwd test done, and at what cost, i do not know.

IOWA DNR states;

Testing for the CWD protein is not a food safety test. Currently it is not believed that humans can contract CWD by eating venison; however, the Center for Disease Control and the World Health Organization recommend hunters avoid eating meat, brain, eyeballs, or spinal cord of infected deer, and that hunters wear protective gloves while field dressing game....

http://www.iowaagriculture.gov/animalIndustry/chronicWastingDisease.asp

I would try calling them and just asking them about it. the above links have contact phone numbers, and i am pretty sure they will speak with you and tell you where, if there are any locations that do cwd tse testing for hunter harvest kills. it would be a very wise decision to do that imo...

Have they tried feeding the brains of infected cattle to monkeys? What about eating meat or blood transfusions.
