Completed Calls!!! DONE!!!

THA4

A Few Steps Ahead Of You
I had a bunch of scrap wood laying around, so i glued a bunch of it together (laminate) i just glued the backer board on last night, so i will try to spin one tonight. i will take pix of the process and update the thread as i go.

i have only turned pots out of solid stock, so we will see how this laminate thing goes. if it works they are going to be sweet looking!!

i used popular, walnut, cherry and one piece of Purple heart.

first my sloppy shop....

I glue a piece of stock to the back of the pre-spun pot so i can screw the head of the lathe into that rather than screw it into the piece itself! it might be some extra work, but it seems to hold just fine

Ill prly make a few striker ends out of this.....

Re: Calls in process....(UPDATED!!)

Very nice! Good choice on the lathe. I love mine. Made any pens? If you haven't it's pretty fun if you don't mind sharpening your tools.

They do look very nice but like me when are you gonna have the time. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

How long do they take Thomas from start to the finish?

Re: Calls in process....(UPDATED!!)

spinning actually only takes an hour and a half or so, and that is on the long side..... taking my time making sure i dont blow the pot up into a million pieces....

the long tedeous part is putting polyurithane (SP) on the pot...

it always drips all over everything and dries making it stick to whatever.....

all in all, 4 hours per call.... rough estimate

Re: Calls in process....(UPDATED!!)

Thomas,

Those are beautifull. I'm jealous. I wish i had some sort of talent like that.

Re: Calls in process....(UPDATED!!)

talent....
not me......

its much easier than a guy would think
kinda like pottery, cant really screw it up!

Re: Calls in process....(UPDATED!!)

I'm still impressed. I'd love to learn how to do it. I have my grandpa's old lathe at my parents. Maybe i'll have to dig it out and see if i can loose a few fingers!!! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: Calls in process....(UPDATED!!)

well, i did some more work on the lathe again tonight....

although the first one didnt "turn" out the way i had planned.....

this is what happens when you have dull knives and when you push too hard....
duh.... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif
