Looks to be different than in years past. Not all in the same night. I like this as it should speed up the process as we won't need to hear every store in the state report in multiple times. Join in and give your opinion.

DNR to recap hunting seasons, discuss possible rule changes at public meetings across the state

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a series of town hall-style meetings where local staff will provide updates on recently completed hunting seasons, discuss possible changes to hunting rules and regulations, and address other topics as requested.

“We want people to come out to these meetings, listen to the hunting seasons reviews, ask questions and hear directly from our staff,” said Todd Bishop, chief of the Iowa DNR’s Wildlife Bureau. “Part of the meeting will be devoted to discussing potential rule changes and collecting feedback as we work through the rules process.”

The meetings are open to the public. Comments collected from these public meetings will be considered along with other related comments received by the Iowa DNR prior to proposing changes to hunting rules and regulations. Proposed rules will be presented to the Natural Resource Commission during a regular public meeting for consideration and additional public comment.

These meetings replace the one night listening session held in late winter over the past 15 years.

I don't know how well of a turnout Salix will have as we don't even have a full room for hunters safety. Will be interesting to see the numbers.

I was at the DSM. There was one dude in the back that was a little aggressive, I sort of felt bad for the DNR guy talking and trying to answer questions from that guy. We seemed to have good support of keeping the deer hunting regs how they are and making no changes.

I really thought there would have been more people being it was in DSM.

I went to Dsm meeting. The guy in the back was all for baiting. A guy up front thinks land owners should post there phone number on fences.
I felt that it was nothing more than a courtesy meeting. Our opinions there have 0 effect. All laws/regs are politically controlled. It was a two hour waste of time really.

I completely agree Vrod. When everyone in the room can voice their opinion, they only remember the dumb ones and discount the rest.

    Good point.

I do hope the DNR payed attention to the applause. I don't recall applause at any other meeting. After the guy in the back said we should have floating tags, allow baiting, and other things because "other states allow it", I spoke up. I said to quit adding seasons, weapons, messing with tags, keep crossbows out of archery season, and guns away from the rut. I don't want to be other states as they have gone downhill, I want Iowa to be Iowa.

A large part of the group actually applauded. So, please speak up for keeping things as they are.

Also, fill out the sheets with the things you want to see change, and what should stay the same.

I don't get how you don't see they are a bad thing. I get they have their place for people who qualify. But not everyone who can carry a set of shooting sticks and pull a trigger need to be out in November shooting 100 yards. That's one of the things that keeps Iowa great. Well that and .01 inches of precipitation a year.
