Forestry Cost Share Heads Up

Wanted to give you guys a heads up. They have announced a second round of EQIP rankings and the deadline to get signed up is March 30th. (You can sign up anytime of the year but they only do rankings a couple of times). EQIP is a great cost sharing program to complete forestry practices such as tree planting, weed tree removal, or crop tree release. The rates are typically a little lower than REAP, but if you are doing the work yourself, it is a great way to help cover the costs of chemical, gas/oil for a chainsaw, your time, etc......

This is a flat rate program, meaning there are established statewide rates for each practice and no matter how much it costs you to complete the practice, you will get paid the standard statewide rate.

To sign up you need to get with your forester and get a plan established for what you want to do, and then stop into your local NRCS office and tell them you would like to sign up.

Finally, a little inside scoop here - Historically there has been a pretty large pot of EQIP money available for forestry practices, and it typically never gets close to being used up. Essentially, if you apply, you will hghly likely get approved. This is an excellent opportunity for folks, especially if you are in a county that has a waiting list for REAP.
