Any recent updates from anyone? I saw a full rack Friday evening and a half on Saturday.
Every buck that doesn't look to be a 1.5 or 2.5 year old still has antlers in south central iowa. I dumped 10 bushels of corn out last week and got a pretty good idea of what's around
I haven't seen a buck with antlers in WEEKS. I'd say the vast majority have dropped in my area. The worst part of d late droppers and mild weather is the amount of sheds that will be lost to the early greenup. Might be a record number of year old sheds found next year.
I know a group coyote hunting saw 9+ bucks carrying both sides last weekend. That was in a single section. Mahaska county
On the way to the classic we saw a group of 3 bucks all with both sides
I have a hard time believe over 50% are shed here . No ones finding any ... I've found 3 .. 2 fresh is all.
My son walked all over our place this past weekend on 3/4 and 3/5 and found 15 total, which was pretty good. All but one of those was a freshy...from just the past week, since he walked all over the place the previous weekend too. Interestingly, three of them were within 20 feet of the other and all were from different bucks...they for sure weren't there last weekend. So they are dropping finally.
Now then, we still have at least 6 recognizable bucks that had both sides on as of Saturday from checking trail cams. So there are still plenty holding too.
I'm thinking 90% shed out here in Northeast Iowa, have pic of one holding on Mar.2. The deer haven't been as visible lately so maybe more are packing then I think? It's been good year for me anyhow, may be done regardless of what I see or am hearing! Good luck everyone!
Any mature ones holding, debating whether to hang up boots for the year or not? I shed hunt Clayton/allamakee in ne iowa. I'm not finding any that appear fresh, Ive been re walking and re walking so thinking it's time to end the season.
My son found a matched set this weekend from a 3 year old, most of the recognizable deer still holding are 2, 3 or 4 year olds.
Checking the cam in SW IA this weekend I counted 8 bucks still holding both sides. There were a few shed bucks but only 3 that I could differentiate...most pics may have been the same buck.
That is not good, we come down in mid-March (typically) to shed hunt, might have to wait til the end of the month or early April?
I must be an outlier. The majority of the deer I was keeping tabs on have dropped. Multiple farms.
Funny how things work sometimes. On Monday I say I haven't seen a buck carrying antlers in WEEKS and yesterday I saw TWO bucks with both sides on their heads. One was a really nice 130ish 8. I'd love to have those sheds!
I went out for about an hour and a half after work yesterday before dark. Found zero, saw two bucks with both sides.
Seen 5 bucks behind my house yesterday evening. 4 were still packing both sides and the other had lost one.
100% dropped at my place.
I was in southern Iowa on Friday March 10th and came up on a buck that had been hit by a car laying next to the road. One side had popped off and was laying next to him. The other side was still attached and could not be pulled off. So looks like some still carrying down south.
Saw two more carrying both sides on Tuesday night while out coyote hunting.
