pre-rut already?

Monday afternoon I watched a young 8 point actively chasing a doe near Centerville. Then this morning I saw forked horn near Eddyville following two does with his nose to the ground. Has this cold front got them worked up? Seems like they're about 3 weeks early....

From what I read, there was a false rut predicted around the first part of Oct. I think I read that on a web site from Steve Taylor Outdoors. http://www.tricountyi.net/~stocalls/huntingcalendar.htm

While watching a pen of captive deer last night, I saw one of the does urinate and a 120" 8 point immediately start sniffing the ground as well as the doe. Then the big boy, a 160 class 10 point went over, sniffed the ground, did a classic lip curl, and urinated on the ground in the same spot. Typical guys, always sniffing around! Nothing doing until the ladies are ready later in the fall.
