Recovery after oak wilt

I saw mention of oak wilt and wondered what a person plants after it comes through. Does it persist in the soil? Can you replant a different oak?

Just a FYI...from what I can tell in my timber, oak wilt hit some of my beautiful red oaks, knocking out some real dandies...but I think it was limited to red oaks, thankfully.
