Wyoming</ST1:pl hunters now have over 50,000 new acres of walk-in access to private lands this hunting season. They’ll also have four new hunter management areas where they may hunt big game like elk, deer and antelope, as well as a variety of upland bird species, waterfowl, and small game and predators.

<ST1:pWyoming </ST1:pHunter Management and Walk-In Area programs provide access to more than two million acres of public and private lands.

The four new hunter management areas in Johnson, Carbon, Albany and <ST1:pHot Springs</ST1:p counties, coupled with the 50,000 acres of private lands, are being added to 700,000 acres already provided through the walk-in area program

These additions are available because of contributions made by sportsmen to the Game and Fish Department’s AccessYes Program’s Walk-in Program and cooperating <ST1:pWyoming</ST1:p companies, like PacifiCorp, M&M, McFarlane and the Little V-H.

“These companies and landowners should be commended for their key role in the good stewardship of these lands,” said Gov. Dave Freudenthal. “As we all know, particularly in the eastern half of our state, access is a prized commodity. We understand that these folks don’t take granting access lightly, and we sure appreciate their willingness to participate in this program which provides such an important benefit to the hunting public.”

Hunters must obtain a permit to hunt the management areas either online or at the state’s game and fish offices. Walk-in areas do not require special permission to hunt.
Hunters can begin applying for HMA permits on July 14.

The complete list of 2009 hunter management and walk-in areas is available on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Web site at http://gf.state.wy.us.
