What is best for filming hunts?

Hey guys, thinking of getting into filming my hunts. I know nothing about the filming industry and was wondering what is best for filming hunts, camcorders or cameras? I have a few friends that use $600-$700 dollar cameras, that's what has me asking. I am only wanting to spend about $300-$400 on the camera itself. What are the pros and cons, what do you use/like?
