Where Were You?

As we all know tomorrow is Sept 11th. I am sure most of you remember where you were and what you were doing when you first found out about the attacks.
I was sitting in class taking a math test when the principal came over the intercom and had all teachers meet at the cafeteria. The rest of the day we spent the day watching the tv in disbelief.
Where were you?

I was at work.

A co-worker got a call from a friend who told him to turn on the news/get on the internet. We watched streaming video.

I told my staff to go home early that day and be with the one's they loved, as I felt it was more important to appreciate what one has while they have it.

I was at home messing around and I remember my Mom turning on the TV and her jaw legitimately dropped. I was 5 at the time.

I was skipping a college class and sleeping in when a friend called and told me to turn on the TV.... Very sad day.

Will never forget

Just dropped my son off at school driving back home, the radio channel had no clue what was really happening, then just watched the tv the rest of the morning. Left for Montana elk hunting right after that, the airport was a nightmare, traveling changed forever that day.

I just walked into my dorm at the towers at ISU. My mom called freaking out and told me to fill up on gas. I watched TV the rest the day.

Senior year of highschool.. I was a couple blocks away from school and heard it on the radio.. we watched it on tv all day. After school at football practice, we saw AF1 fly over escorted by fighter jets.

I was in my second week of student teaching in Fayetteville, NC. Which of course is next to a huge military base, so it was a crazy time/place. Unfortunately, the high school sophomores that I teach to now were 4ish when it happened and therefore don't have quite the same emotional connection. I show a video in class (ok, you got me, I'm a social studies teacher) that I have shown numerous times, probably 30+ times to various classes. Unfortunately, it doesn't get any easier for me to watch.

I had just stepped out of the shower, getting ready for work when my wife yelled at me. I'll never forget that sinking feeling in my stomach. Nobody said much at work that day without choking up. I don't even remember how many times I spoke to my parents that day.

Ironically, I was heading to a buddy's house to meet him and go out setting a few stands. Needless to say we didn't get much accomplished. We will never forget. Fly those flags proud Americans!!

I was in Toronto on a job by myself. The plant I was in was very ethnically diverse. Most were good people and expressed sympathy for what had happened. When it happened the plant manager came by and told me but I could not believe it. It was a very lonely week. When I was able to leave planes were still not flying. I got the last rental car the company would let go to the states and shared it with a guy from Kansas that I met in line.

I was a freshman in college, in Economics class. We didn't have a lecture that day, the prof. turned on the news and the class watched that instead.

8th grade English class. Our teacher wheeled the TV into the room and told us to brace ourselves. That day it felt like time stood still.

Was on top of a mountain in Wyoming mule deer hunting. Remember turning the radio on in the truck late in the day and it was complete chaos. Would have never even known that day if I wouldn't have happened to turn that on.

I work in downtown NYC and go through the WTC every morning. As luck would have it both times the Tade Centers were attacked, I was not in New York. On that morning I had taken the day off to recuperate from a weekend tuna trip to Montauk, NY. The night before when we passed the towers it was extremely dark from impending storms and the towers were not visible from 2 blocks away. My dad commented "wow, it's like the twin towers aren't even there". The next mornong as the evnts unfolded I sat on my deck watching the TV and also watching the F16 fighters scorching the sky just a few hundred feet above my house. They were fully armed, regardless of news reports to the contrary. I knew then that life as we knew it had changed.

I was in the Colorado Rockies on an elk hunt with no tv or radio. I didn't learn about it until I called home a few days later and then my brother and I headed home immediately.

I was in 2nd grade and the principal came in and whispered to my teacher who instantly started crying. All I remember is sitting there watching the TV wondering why someone would do something like this.
