    % SHED? Updated…

I would say less than 40% shed in our area of Iowa. Honestly it seems like there was a handful that shed early, end of Dec early Jan and not a whole lot sense then. Hopefully a good indicator of herd health and this mild weather stretch continues!

    Alfalfa

My favorite way of establishing clover or alfalfa is with the Dbltree rye blend in the fall. It is crazy how much easier it is to establish and almost no weeds the next year with the rye's allelopathic properties. Can go a little lighter on the rye maybe 50-100 lbs per acre so it doesn't...

    Brassicas

Is this weekend (Sep 24th) too late for Clethodim and weed control to help? Some of our new no till plots this year have a bad grass invasion coming in due to the initial burndown not being as effective on the drought ridden dormant plants. The brassicas have been the slowest growing out of any...

    Cereal Grains and cover crops

Maybe dumb to be even considering this... But considering broadcasting rye in the next few days. Anyone ever tried it this late? Central Iowa ish. I wasn't planning on it but we have a new lease this year and the only food we had on the property was corn, which got harvested obviously. But then...

    Egyptian Wheat

Only thing from my research is quinclorac. But apparently you have to get them when the foxtail is really young. I got some to try to save some screens that got taken over by late emerging foxtail but the first weekend was rained out and by the time last weekend rolled around I knew I had missed...

HF 23 Dog tracking clean up bill

Anyone know how someone and their dog becomes "certified" in deer blood tracking? I got a pup in march that I'm training to be a shed dog and I'm considering getting him into tracking. I can't seem to find any information on it.

Early shed year? Brother’s buck shed at shot

It’s crazy how it varies so much. We pulled our cams early last week so I’m out of the loop now but as of then we were probably approaching 40% shed. I WAS NOT shed hunting when I went and pulled the cameras, want to wait for them all to drop and have the whole family looking for them. But I...

    Coyote problem

Do you guys buy into the idea that if you shoot a coyote, more coyotes come in? Saying it wouldn't actually lower your coyote numbers with moderate hunting. I'm not sure I buy into that. Seems like someone might be thinking too hard. If I kill a coyote, there is one less running around. At least...

Early shed year? Brother’s buck shed at shot

That is an interesting take on it. Most of the damages missed our area. I would guess there will be some very healthy deer up in those areas in years to come, all that natural hinge cutting and waste grain

Early shed year? Brother’s buck shed at shot

Hey everyone, first thread. I know I know, we hear this every year. “The bucks are shedding early” then everyone starts shed hunting way too early. Trying not to fall in that trap but I am seeing WAY more early shed bucks than normal this year, both on places I hunt and on social media. Wanted...

Unique bucks - trail cam pics...

That is sweet, like a baseball bat! I would target him in case he doesn't ever throw one of those crazy drops ever again!

    Corn and clover grown together

Pretty sure I tried this by accident this year in a field that was left fallow last year and turned into almost pure clover. Planted a perfect DBltree rye mix plot in part of the field and was sitting in the blind watching countless deer feeding in the fallow field out of range wherever they...
