    181" Iowa Whitetail

I agree that the crossbow can be just as challenging as a standard bow. Great buck and an unbelievable wall! You sir, seem to know things that even the pros don't. Keep on it and I agree with some of the others. Show us the rest of your wall!!!

The Ghost of Seasons Past Returns

Fantastic! Wish I could have been there with you but the greatest buck to come off of that property yet nonetheless. Our work has truly paid off! Cannot wait to see the mount of that one. :)

    Late Muzz Success

Negative. This was in Wayne county. A lot different from the Grundy, and Story counties I am used to.

    Late Muzz Success

It was a rough bow season for me with a lot of BIG deer success for those around me but I was invited to hunt some property in southern Iowa. Monday morning a friend and I walked some of the public and I had an opportunity at a dandy buck that was hauling through some open bottomland. Two shots...

How are the shot gunners doing?

I personally don't shotgun hunt, but I am seeing a trend here... When did this site become IowaArcherywhitetail? Is it not better to get out and hunt at all than to spend a weekend at the mall or in front of a TV?!?! Not trying to start anything but I think there is a bigger picture here.

what is the pope and young record for your county

There are currently no archery entries whatsoever for Grundy County. As is noted by some, I have one on my wall that qualifies, I have just never had it submitted. IT was never about the books for me.

    Alternative to a shoulder mount

I have made a few of these. Alternative with a rustic spin. They spin so you can move them how you please, and are removable so you can hold it like the day you harvested it.

What's is your true goal in these season

This has to be the greatest thread I have seen yet. Good to see its not just about killing something. Goal: 1 Hunt with the wife and try and get her on anything 2 get back to enjoying the hunt and not making it a chore or frustration 3 take pictures

    Lets see some mounts

Yeah, I have a set of teeth I have collected over the years and compared to the ISU Animal Ecology lab sets, and he is either 7.5 or 8.5. Hard to tell but an older deer indeed. Posted the story earlier "New Year's Redemption". Super happy with him!

    Lets see some mounts

These are two mounts that I have built that are a little different than your everyday euro mount. Take a euro mount and cross it with a pedestal mount: First one I built for Bowman13 who didn't want a shoulder mount, went 178" Second one I just finished on my late muzzle buck. 141"...

    New Year's Redemption

My brother told me there was some history with this buck and that he was most likely an older deer. I finally got a chance to skin him out today and he is by far the oldest I have harvested. 8.5+ Teeth on upper almost gone, teeth on lower severely worn, and even his incisors on lower were worn...

    Turned out pretty cool

Sweet! Some real giants and awesome character buck in there. Perfect choice of song as well :)

    New Year's Redemption

2013 proved to be a tough season for me. My brother, and a close friend both shot bruisers with their bows. I struggled and never even got a shot off. I don't shotgun hunt so late muzzle is my gun season. I passed a fair amount of does hoping for a sighting of a buck. I saw a couple but not even...

    Identify please!

Looks like Canada Wild Rye (Elymus canadensis). Nothing wrong with it, sometimes considered a bi-annual. Not invasive.

    No one's perfect.

This is an interesting thread to say the least. We have all been there or at least seen it. November 2009. Hunting northeast Iowa at the confluence of prairie edge, and ravine. Had a 158" come up the ravine side, as usual not where I expected. He stopped perfectly broadside at 22 yards but was...
