    Rut Action/Movement Reports

Sat all but one hour today which I took to go get something to eat real quick and warm up. Had over 20 does on a field tonight for over an hour. Finally had a 120’ish 8pt step out and bump them all around. Only buck who showed. Rest of the day was very slow and quiet. Was on stand by 545...

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

I agree there are plenty still not locked down. Had a really good mature deer running wild and cruising yesterday. Just have lost sight of several known mature deer in this area in the last 24-48 hrs. Hopefully by the weekend they are up and searching again.

    Rut Action/Movement Reports

I’m starting to get some lockdown vibes here in central Iowa. Polk/Dallas/Boone county area

    Ending morning hunts…..

I have my own opinions on this and ways that I handle when I stop. Rut activity, moon and temps are all influencers for me but I also look to consult with others and value the opinions so I guess I am more curious than anything as to when everyone moves away from mornings and begins the focus...

    Early lockdown?

Have been off since Friday. Hunted every day almost all day. Day 4 today. Same. Next to zero movement. Fawns and buttons for the most part when a deer is seen. These are farms and large timber with great numbers. Fields empty at night. For those who don’t like the L word, call it what you...

    Early lockdown?

Getting word that many mature deer are being seen in Central Iowa locked up with does already. Hearing this from several people I know that hunt hard and hunt often. I guess I would say I trust what they are seeing. Every year you hear about it happening and is more of what I call the...

    Rut action/reports

One of the top mature bucks I have identified this year was on the field watching a fork sniff around last night. Fork got to 20 and the big guy stayed at 60. He only cared what the fork was up to. The little guy ended up working away and took the big guy with. Gave them a couple grunts and...

    Rut action/reports

Starting vacation this week. Enjoy reading what everybody is seeing while I’m on stand to pass the time. Sat Friday morning before packing up for a out of town softball tournament. Rattled a couple in early. Young but heavy 8 and a spike. Thursday night had one of my target bucks and two...

    Decoys

I am glad to see this post. For the last few years I have wanted to give decoy’s a try on some of my properties. I am more torn on which one I want and admittedly have spent way too much time researching them. I am leaning towards picking up the Primos Scarface today over the Flambeau Big...

    Hunting mornings early season

This year started out phenomenal as far as weather. I feel it is way too early in the season to hunt mornings(my opinion). I have always found or felt it best to wait until late October to start trying mornings, but I have a deer using a funnel between two properties consistently early/mid...

    Early November success

No, not the same deer. He is doing well and moving good. We are thinking I caught a limb as I shot. Really can’t wrap my mind around how it all went down. There was a great blood trail and thought for sure he was done. Came in front of my buddy a couple times in the last few weeks and is...

    Early November success

I’m usually out grinding it out in late December and early January. Had a great opportunity in October and thought I put a great shot on a terrific deer. Tracked that night and then again the following day. Gave up after bumping him a full day later. Fortunately we have seen him since with a...

    2018 Rut report

My buddy and I took off the 6-14 and hunted almost every day. Saw more than our fair share of dinks and basket racks with some light chasing. First evening out we split up and sat different stands. I watched a mature buck with a hot doe bed down, but had several does with bucks running around...

    2018 Rut report

Usually by now someone has posted a thread with rut updates and what they are seeing.....so, what IS everybody seeing so far? Little over a week before vacation kicks in for 8 days, but may have to spend more quality time in the stand if things are picking up. Been doing short hunts so far...
