Iowa Sportsman's Club Dinner & Sweepstakes

It was a great event. My wife and I both enjoyed it and hopefully there will be even more people there next year. With groups like this I think it will make it much harder for special interests to ruin this state although it won't stop them from trying. Thanks to all for putting on this great...

    Wisconsin Bans doe hunting

I actually know one of the representatives who is working on this legislation as he is a childhood friend of my brother. Like any legislation it changes a million times before it reaches the end funnel so the final bill is to be determined. I grew up in N. Wisconsin and I know several people...

    POLL: MOST BENEFICIAL REGULATION CHANGE?

I think the answer may vary slightly depending on what we're trying to benefit. If it's hunter retention/recruitment then it should be about increasing numbers and getting hunters seeing more deer. In this scenario I feel lowering anterless quotas is the easy low hanging fruit. In terms of...

    2023 Deer Harvest Report numbers

Reading through all the posts and watching some video podcasts I think it's time hunters everywhere need to re-evaluate doe harvest. I'm not saying don't shoot any does as we all know there are pockets of high deer density that need does shot but overall we need to be cutting back doe harvest...

    Human Scent

I haven't read all the responses but I will give some experience I've had. I will also state I don't think age matters much in terms of being able to smell you but rather their experiences may have them more reactive to the scent. I was doing an urban doe hunt about 10 yrs ago and I had sprayed...

    2023 Deer Harvest Report numbers

I would say numbers will be down. I had a very tough archery season and my brothers and I did not see as many deer as normal in gun season. Others I have talked to also seemed to have seen less deer but many had differences in the reasons.

    Highway 2 Monster!

I agree with Skip above. Why post the video and location? Whenever someone does that immediately there are people trying to find that deer and the chances of it being poached skyrocket. If I post a video like that you can be assured the deer is dead and no location will be given.

No Doe shooting for ME…. U guys down?

As I have wrote in past threads, I mainly hunt public (95%) in SC IA and I have been seeing a decline in deer numbers for the past 5-10yrs. Big groups of Amish and others push a lot of these pieces every gun season and usually are not selective in what they shoot. I will not shoot a doe unless...

    Late November Tactics

Is mid-day (10-2) worth hunting much anymore or should the focus be on mornings or evenings?

    Late November Tactics

It's been a tough season for me so far. Lots of deer but nothing within my comfortable range that I wanted to shoot. I know lots of guys have success in late November but my streak of not shooting a big buck after the first week of November is unfortunately still intact. I don't expect a flurry...

HOW LONG LIVE? Stomach & maybe liver- PIC!!!

Figured I would post a pic to maybe help with assessing the shot. I think we can all learn from these instances especially with how long a specific shot placement took to recover the deer. Good luck with finding the deer today. I was always told to shoot right behind the leg but the more I have...

HOW LONG LIVE? Stomach & maybe liver- PIC!!!

Also just in case any copyright police are wondering this is not my image. Just sharing what I think is a good illustration that will help hunters.

HOW LONG LIVE? Stomach & maybe liver- PIC!!!

Overall, the shot is back but not by much. I agree with some others there is a chance he hit lungs. I think one important question is what type of broadhead? The deer is dead no question but how long it will take may depend on the broadhead. In my experience fixed blades will take a little...

    Shoot or Pass

No but I try to hang them high and out of the line of sight. I've had cameras messed with on public and private and I now run strictly cell cams unless I absolutely can't get service. This way even in the worst case scenario I still get the pictures to know what's in the area. I'd like to hope...
