Im heading to Nebraska for a DIY Muley hunt Saturday, Sept 24th and Im thinking that Davenport may be my stopping place for the first night. Anyone have any suggestions on a place to stay or anything worth seeing /doing while in town? Or anywhere in that general area on I-80?

Thanks Guys
Corey

Corey,
I doubt it will be an issue for this game but there is a home game in Iowa City. I wouldnt try to get much farther than davenport as rooms will get scarce. Just a heads up. It would probably be a bigger issue if it was a big ten game but something to think about.

For easy access off the highway I would get off at the Walcott exit about 10 miles past Davenport. That is where the big I80 truckstop is and there is food and a couple hotels right there. Might want to call ahead as I am not sure if those places fill up. That should keep you away from the football traffic as well. Not sure about things to do in the area, if I am not working I usually look for deer :D

theres always some nightlife stuff going on in davenport.. some football games.. downtown has its moments too as far as lodging theres an americ inn right next to cracker barrel right off the interstate

I agree. You could sleep in your truck, hang a hankerchief on the door handle and see what comes knocking at night. :way:

Sounds good! Im thinking if I stop a little farther east I can stay a little longer in Ohio and get out opening morning.....so my plans a still unsure

I've got a spare bedroom you could crash in for the night.. I'm in muscatine which isn't too far off the interstate right smack dab inbetween iowa city and davenport

I would try to make it to the Davenport area. There are very few hotels the last 30-40 miles of western Illinois.

At the NW Blvd. exit you will find everything you need right of I-80 two reasonable and clean motels, a couple restaurants (I suggest the Iowa Machine shed, and if your interested someone already suggested Daisy Dooks.
If you take 280 west around the IL side of the Quad Cities there is the Jumers Casino and Hotel.

If it will be on Saturday and you can reserve a room ahead of time, you might want to think about making it to Iowa City. The Haweyes are playing ULM and it is an experience just to see everyone in town. Beats lot lizards at the Worlds Largest Truck stop! Plenty of hotels right off of I-80.

the I-80 truck stop at Walcot is about as stupid as Wall, SD...don't waste your time doing that unless you enjoy being around tweeking meth-heads...especially on a Saturday night.

Mplane gave some good advice above...or getting over towards Iowa City is worth it too.

If you go to iowa city, I'd suggest eating at Herb N' Lou's in West Branch...damn good pizza:drink2:

Wanted to give a big shout out and thanks you to AIRASSAULT (Bill and g/f Katie) for taking me in last night. Just made it to my hunting shack in Nebraska

Thanks Bill, you got an open invite to BoonersAcres is Ohio
