I finally got out for the first time on Sunday for teal season here in Iowa. Hoping I can get out tomorrow for the last day. Took us awhile to find some water.

Tubbs did awesome. There wasn’t many birds but I wanted to get him out he got four retrieves in.

North zone goose opener was today. Unfortunately no dog pics and I’m super upset about it. My dad was supposed to hunt with us this morning and bring Tubbs but he backed out last minute last night then guilt tripped me into not taking the dog because he has a sore on his tail from licking it raw due to limp tail from his last hunt. My buddy couldn’t bring either of his dogs either as he had to head to a wedding and wouldn’t have the time to clean them up before putting them in the house.

I really wanted Tubbs to go to get his first real goose retrieves and it would have been perfect because we had 4 singles do it dirty into the decoys.

I may be a fat man but I’m not a lazy man this is my haul in. Half mile one way.

Today our plan was to hunt the same hole as we did Saturday. We pulled into the drive to see a truck parked on the other side of the road. Didn’t think much of it as there’s a water hole on that side as well. Started loading the gear up and they walk over and ask us where we are headed. To our surprise they were headed to the same place we had planned (so we aren’t the only stupid ones to do) Out of respect of them being there first we decided to let them have the hole and we’d head to another spot.

Got to the new spot and walked all the way in to realize there’s no water so back out we had to go. Third option was a long hilly walk but rather than just driving home we elected to try it. Got in and set up to not see a bird.

Bummer. The dogs were full of anticipation, great photo of the two of them staring into the sky.

I think tomorrow we have a good shoot lined up as long as we beat others there. Hoping for a first goose retrieve for Tubbs.

So today was the second central zone opener. I had to work today as well but figured I would sneak a couple hour hunt in close to home before going in. So my buddy and I went and shot our wood ducks at a beaver pond and got a bonus teal. Tubbs has came so far in the last two seasons and I was crazy proud of him this morning. He also got his personal best number of retrieves in a day.

Had a drake woodie land in the decoys after we had our limit. Tried to get a photo of it and Tubbs marking it but only focused on the big ole dog head:
