Been quiet

But the price of cabins and lake lots go up if we allow non-residents to get a license every year. If we (MN) could limit the licenses, we would have more affordable lake shore for the resident.:thrwrck:

Again, not apples to apples. Last I checked, you don't need lakefront property to fish most lakes in MN. I also know several people who own lakefront cabins/houses in MN that do not even fish. I guess you will have to put restrictions on boating licenses too;-). :moon:.
But hey, if that's what the residents of MN want then by all means, do it! No hump off my back. I'm fine with fishing right here in Iowa! This Iowa resident isnt going to tell the people of Minnesota to change their laws to benefit me.

for me the worst part about all this, is all the money the state wasted chasing 3 people that want to hunt their own land- its not like the state received a dime in penalties, I mean on the list of of priorities, should nt we be chasing the people whoare shooting deer off the road ? the amount of money the game warden spent driving around thinking about some guy sitting in a tree freezing his a$$ off on his own farm is completely irresponsible

That is like saying, ignore the burglars and thieves and focus on catching the rapists and murderers. I agree one violation is worse than the other but to say they should just turn and look the other way is just as irresponsible. More than likely(like most DNR busts) they got a tip from someone. I highly doubt there was a lot of "chasing" It was not that hard to figure out they didn't spend much time in Iowa. Not to mention this goes way above and beyond just deer hunting, even though that is why they did it. They should not have been allowed to vote for our leaders, etc! Maybe we should all declare residency in NY and vote out all of the gun grabbing liberals from there?

If you want to talk about $ wasted, how about these three guys. What wasted a lot of $ for both sides is when they decided to challenge the decision!

They could have been harvesting and processing bucks on their farm. Being their farm they could have figured no one will catch them if they process it then move the deer. Poachers don't poach because they know they will get caught it is when they think they can get away with it. Not saying these guys illegally harvested bucks on their land but it is an easy thing to do if one wanted. I'd rather have the warden driving around checking suspicious activity and checking tags then just driving around waiting for tips

You probably know that I was being sarcastic! No it is not apples to apples, but it is a way of thinking. All states could follow your lead, and then all of sudden hunting and fishing trips are few and far between, and expensive!!

It was money very well spent. Now, the precedent is established and the laws and regs have been deemed legitimate and we can move on with enforcement. The enforcement has been on hold until this decision was made. Like I said earlier, now the rest of the non-resident "residents" can either move here or quit playing games. Or, face legal charges and fines. The game wardens already know who they are. Say good-night Gracie!:D

Follow our lead by enforcing game laws and protecting a natural resource and the citizens rights? Ya, lets hope all the other states do in fact continue on the same path. Makes sense.

Agree, and limit tags, and charge $500 a tag.

I know you were being sarcastic....well half sarcastic anyway. The funny part about it is many states do follow our lead when it comes to big game! Here is another way of thinking: just let every NR get as many tags as they want. Once our deer heard is all shot up and hunting sucks, no one will want to buy land in Iowa anymore and prices will go down:drink2:

I have buddies on both sides of this and I will try and bite my tongue. No one I know agrees on everything too for what it's worth. I will say- this is a dang good point though. In general a lot of resources go for a lot of petty crap while the guy rifling 10 bucks a yr at night keeps getting away with it cause too hard to catch & too much time to catch him. I'd drop all the petty chasing for a year to put out robo-bucks to catch egregious poachers IMO. One buck killed debatably vs 10 of some poachers is simple focus on the worst with the limited resources. Hot button issue but I see u alls points & some good ones from all sides.

Ive said it before but I would be willing to spend more on all of my licenses to increase funding for law enforcement. Not just deer but hunting and fishing all together. Tons of stuff that goes on and never gets noticed. Due to lack of funds, I think the DNR usually just follows the hot leads. In almost every bust you see, they were tipped off by an anonymous witness.

Another part of this discussion that has been over looked is the fact that they met the previous requirements until the number of days was switched. Also at no time was this a criminal case no charges were filed. The case was to determine the law as it pertained to them individually . I worked in Alaska for 9 years the hot topic when I was up that way was something called rural preference. Basically when quotas were set for moose and caribou hunts your zip code was used. All applicants residing in those areas received tags before anyone in major cities. In the event that our deer herd continues to decline this would be a great system to allocate tags to people that live in those county's that produce the deer . This would keep all the rich Des Moines hunters from buying all the land in Monroe county where I live . Sounds fair ?

Life isn't always fair and if the demand out weighs supply to that extent, we may have to go to a system more granular like that. There was a time when no one could get a deer tag in Iowa!

Also, I doubt it would keep people from Des Moines from buying land in Monroe Co. Or anywhere for that matter All it would create is more urban sprawl IMO. More houses/cabins would go up in rural areas.

LOL! Exactly!!

And now you want to put Iowa in the same boat where deer hunting is concerned.
Thanks. After we grow all these big deer for you, this is how you show your gratitude? Well, you got another thing comin, We'll just start hitting them with our cars during the off season and limit the amount of NR tags issued...

Whoosh right over you head.....!

And who is "we" you are not growing any big deer on my farm??

Hate to break it to everyone but there is a significant correlation between all of Iowa's big deer and the NR farms only being hunted once every three years. Take those same farms and let your shotgun groups hunt them year in and year out and the great hunting will disappear quicker than allowing NR's to hunt every year!

So funny how hard the wealthy whine when money does not get them what they want. I love it. This is one of those few times that money does them no good. Priceless!
Dude, for real? On one of your envious, hatred filled earlier post's you stated you own several farms, guess what...that would make you "wealthy". Would it not? Easy to see who you really are. As for the whining... for someone with so much, you have them all beat.
Obviously, if they were "residents", we would not be having this conversation. They were playing the system and got shut down. Period. Time to start looking at all our neighbors that are bending the crap out of the rules to suit their needs. There are dozens more that should be nervous. Very nervous. Its up to us to hold their feet to the fire and clean up this mess.
None of these guys "bent the crap out of the rules" they followed the rules to get their residency, and then the rules were changed. Thanks to you and "neighbors" like you. Congratulations, I'm glad I don't own beside you. As far as "nervous", not likely. Give it up DUDE...its bad karma.

Do you think that using the words "significant correlation" somehow lends credence to what is at best anecdotal evidence? Or do you have proof that NR farms are the true mechanism for
the size of Iowa's deer?

Ok there's 100% without a shadow of a doubt a huge benefit to having so much ground as a sanctuary in your state 2 out of every 3 years.

I

Now that is happening because of the regulations which I'm not arguing should be changed. The fact remains that all your NR enemies typically are in the upper half of deer managers. Guys aren't spending that kind of money to shoot little deer.

It's amazing how quickly everyone forgets all the good that comes from NR's as opposed to thinking they are the plague!
