Rut Action/Movement Reports

This morning was a lot better! Way more movement, big guys cruising. Makes up for the terrible weekend.

terribly slow right now. Like Bad hunting.
Glad to hear that we aren't the only ones. Last night was bad, although I did miss a doe that I should have hit. Harrumph. My son sat a good spot and saw NOTHING. What the??? I think they are still on acorns mainly.

Target buck showed up at noon behind my house on November 2nd. Of course I was farting around doing yard cleanup. The night of the 2nd cams were on fire with mature buck chasing. No doubt some bucks are locked down, trying to catch them between does. Changing my strategy to hunt mid-day and see how that goes.

Been super slow in my area. Between depredation tags, overharvesting of does during gun seasons, and EHD last year it’s taken a toll. Messed up the age structure on bucks. Bunch of 1 1/2 yr olds hardly any 2 or 3 yr olds and a handful of 4 yr olds. I’m hoping the party hunters show some discretion on how many tags they fill but I’m not holding my breath. It’s gonna take a few yrs to recover that’s for sure! They need to increase those surveys to more than once every 5 yrs that’s for sure if that’s what they are basing antlerless tag numbers on.

Four bucks and 10 does yesterday morning until 10:30 ish. Two 1.5yo, one stud 2.5 yo, and then one 3.5 yo. The 3.5yo was grunting behind a doe. The last two sits I've had have been young bucks. I'm a firm believer in the last week of October and then about the 20-27th of November for the big boys moving more.

Only hunted twice so far as like 203ntyp, been busy with chores, trying to get the farm prepped for winter.

I agree with deerhunter93 and will probably take the week of Thanksgiving off, with a few days here and there before.

This weekend weather is looking interesting, trying to figure out what stands to hunt when.

100%

First half of November is my LEAST favorite time to hunt. Exact opposite of what many folks would say.

Saw a really nice mature buck with a doe below my house this morning and then saw another 150s bedded with a doe 30 yards off the road with a little guy standing out in the field keeping his distance.

Have had a few bucks on their feet. Wouldn’t say crazy cruising. Saw four does and five fawns this morning, not a buck around.

Terrible morning movement in Mn this morning.
Had 10 friends in super spots and only 3 saw deer.
I drove about 60 miles this morning starting at just before day break for 2 hours and seen a total of 7 deer.
Came back to the cabin at 11 to feed the woodstove and from 11 to 11 30, my backyard and woods were CRAWLING with deer.
Think I seen 7 bucks in 1/2 hour. Chaos !

Been total dead since about 1:30.

Only been out 1 time. Been busy driving truck and work on the farm. Ive seen some bucks locked down with does out in the fields. If your hunting traditional pinch points and food plots id say most are going to be disappointed. Right now your better off to go for a drive and try to find a buck that you could possibly stalk.

Theres going to be a lot of does come into heat the next week. And the bucks are not going to have to look far. So movement probably not so good.

Between my time constraints and my young family I dont have the time that I used to. Going to hunt hard during the gun season, get the equalizer out.

Sat on food this morning and again this afternoon. Very slow as of 3.45. This is normally an active spot especially with this cold. Guessing the wind has them in deeper timber.

Friday morning in big timber - a couple small bucks with one checking two different does

Friday evening - hunted ag fields and saw 6 bucks and a couple does - most of the bucks were feeding instead of checking the does/cruising.

Saturday evening - zero deer

Sunday evening - zero deer

I did all day sits 11/5, 11/6, 11/7. Saw some chasing and a good 10 pt one day, but nothing older than 3.5 Overall very low #'s for that farm compared to what it usually is. Was pretty disappointing. The mornings were a ghost town. This was in timber. Didnt really even see a deer until around noon time each day. Central IA

11/8 & 11/9 and changed properties and hunted daybreak to 1100. Again, very few deer. Only 3 1 year old bucks spotted. Central IA.
