Poll Question #5: Should mowing standing corn be illegal?
I would agree.. ^^ Yes, deer will eat it off the stalk, but really flock to it when it is made easy for them via mowing.I've always seen a big difference in mowed vs standing corn. Will they eat it off the stalk? Some. But it's like a hog slop buffet the first few days after mowing, especially if timed right with weather. The preference is wildly noticeable.
I would venture 90% of "on the stalk" corn damage I've seen is racoons. Deer are just easier to blame.
It's a magnet. Guys mow small sections at a time and move their blinds around chasing it. I don't see how a person can justify it but be against baiting.I'm on the fence here. Deer seem to eat corn off the stalk just fine, ask any farmer. What's the difference if it is mowed? Easier to see (shoot) them without the stalks in the way? I guess it doesn't fit the "waste grain left from normal agricultural practices" verbiage, but food plots aren't normal ag either.
So you are a master baiter?Yes! And my acres of brassicas are totally a normal agricultural practice![]()
Are you a warden??? Way too much government for meSo you are a master baiter?![]()
Funny you should mention that as I was thinking earlier tonight that nobody has brought up the option of increasing funding for the DNR to increase the number of officers in the field. They are spread thin to enforce the current laws, let alone adding all kinds of new regs. But for most Iowans, this is not a priority. Are you a warden??? Way too much government for me![]()
