Too early to frost seed clover?

I say yes, too early.

My best stands have always come with frost seeding in late winter in Mid MO. Anytime during the month of march seems to be perfect every year.

I don't know what it is, maybe the seed sprouts on some "Indian summer" days in Jan/Feb and then another long, late cold spell kills the seedlings with little to no root system?

I’ve done it a few times around now mainly out of boredom. It worked. I think another month would be much better.

I've done it over a foot of snow before. Worked fine.

But, why risk it. Lots of winter left and a fast melt with heavy snow could redistribute the seed.

It's not too early right now, it for sure can work out now. But the best results come about 4 to 6 weeks fromnow IMO.

Is there a variety of clover that works best for frost seeding or establishing a clover plot? I have 1 ac that was a super sparce brassica plot that I'd like to convert to clover. Soil should be perfect as far as prep. Red? Ladino? A mix?

Yes, yes, yes.

Small clover seeds tend to frost seed the best.
