I have had excellent brassicas with no fertilizer the right soils. Since n is highly mobile in the soil you can always bradcast the urea before a rain if you think they need a boost. I'm trying to elimimate tillage from my rotation wherever possible and brassicas have been my most successful...
This is funny... pigweed has been the number one plant showing browse pressure on my farm the last few weeks! I have been riding around looking at the dozens of species that I have planted thinking it would have been much easier to just till some ground and let it go crazy lol
You will for sure loose some over that time, some years it is more, some less. We figure that in 8 weeks all the N will be atleast 6 in down if not further. You will loose Urea into the air and below the root zone.

It depends on what you have competing with your switch grass. If it were mine I would try to kill the competition with either herbicide or burn and re-seed switch to fill in the bad areas.
