Wouldn't expect to see much topside growth from a month old WSG planting, they will grow root system first. As far as the "weeds" go, most are probably beneficial to the wildlife as food , nesting and brood rearing.

The is a market for them with some buyers. I got .08 a bft standing last year. 197 cottonwoods averaging 380 bft. So $30 per tree.

I don't know if a drop seeder will work on WSG fluff seed, it would for switchgrass. I bought a Truax "Seed Slinger" broadcast seeder for my atv, it has augers for the fluff seed mix in the main bin and a separate compartment for hard seed. I did 116 acre dormant seeding with it 4 years...
