Was reading that the new growth from Osage Orange is like crack to deer. Might want to cut them flush with the ground and let the deer browse them. Pass on the herbicide for now? Maybe do it to a few?
I skipped on suggesting oaks since you said you had a limit on species, looking for...
I'm fighting cherry big time! Almost invasive with the birds pooping them everywhere. So I wouldn't touch that.
I thought cottonwood was almost in the weed category in Iowa. Do they have a sterile one they offer? Turkey roost trees eventually?
Mulberry I kind of like.
Sycamores can grow...
I picked up some osage oranges, cut them in pieces and buried them on a grassy ridge. That was fall of 2024, haven't been back to look at them. Planted a handful of acorns and chestnuts in the same line.
I've read that some people made a slurry of oranges and dumped them in a trench. Seems...
I'm a one-man army. ;) Was pretty quiet in my neighborhood as well.
Snow was deep enough that it was somewhat of a challenge with a bum knee, would have hated to do the drives I did back when I party hunted in the early '80's.
As the sun set on Saturday, the deer moved into the ag fields...
Bur Oak Trust manages a bunch of local ground and they (and your tax dollars) hire people to clean invasives from the timbers. NO understory, very open. Put a pocket or two of bedding cover and ….

Honeysuckle is the reason for a one of the bucks on my wall. I've watched deer browse and bed in it. I'd rather try to manage than eliminate it, probably easier said than done.
Russian Olive, multiflora, green briar, poison ivy, are of more concern to me.
Might be able to downshift to a lower gear to minimize the bogging but it gets old sitting on a tractor that you could walk faster than... Jobs turn into hours. Wish I had a batwing and a bigger tractor, but that's not in the budget.
I'm picky with the bow, will be even pickier with the ML I plan to use instead of a shotgun.
I got out the T/C Impact last night along with the "possibles bag". Blackhorn 209 and some Barnes solid coppers. Will be carrying the S&W .44 Mag hoping for an up-close encounter at the place I plan...
If it is in a program, I'd inquire with the FSA. As mentioned before, I ran down some rows of corn in a food plot with a snowmobile years ago and got a reprimand from them. Luckily no fine, but they were not happy.
Yeah, I looked at doing that but went old school.
When I got last year's report back, supposedly I recorded that I saw a bobcat and I've never seen a live one in my life. Not sure how that error occurred or if entering on-line would prevent such errors. On-line and me being a Boomer, no...
The incident that chaps me most about LOT's is "providing" them to lease holders: benefitting financially from them, whether the tag is sold or provided with the lease price. No guess as to how often this happens.
If used on other properties, just hoped they get checked but with many DNR's...
