I also have some around the farm. Some are still doing their job, although the trees have mostly outgrown them, or a few are scattered here and there. I’ve collected quite a few of the white stakes we used and they’re being put back in service.

I’m also in Van Buren County and that’s what I find. The radishes are hit first. I’ve never seen the huge radishes I see pictures of. I’ve used a “Kitchen Sink” mixture the last several years, with good results. Purple Tops are easily the heart and soul of every mix we’ve used. I would be OK...

I’m putting in about an acre of switchgrass in the next few weeks. Tentative plans are to spray and then drill a mix of Cave In Rock and Kanlow. This will be my first experience with Kanlow. Your thoughts????

Paul learned to hate those blue tubes. He would have a couple of hundred already assembled and in the back of his truck when I would make it up in the spring from Mississippi. Many popped open during the year and he would always put them back together....every stinking one of them! One year...

What caused the 30% reduction in deer population?

I covered one up with tin siding off an old roof during the fall and winter hunting seasons. Easy and can be used for years.

Not sure we’re seeing many returning or new replacements that are mature. Neighbor has found 5, I believe this week. They’ve spent a lot of time on their farm with some projects. Several had already been found. Discouraging. I don’t think we’re located terribly far from Daver.

Years ago I planted several hundred shrubs of about 6-8 varieties that all produced berries for the wildlife. The grey or gray dogwoods that were located along a gravel road survived. They were eaten down every winter for several years, but survived and are doing well today. Nothing else made...
