In the same boat- although I have only bowhunted for about 7 days total in the last 5 years so there’s that this fall and next year isn’t looking so good already but we shall see.
Serious note- I’d give up a tag- but I still see a LOT being valuable but needs to make sense. NOT just an acreage...
I’ve only got little plots- mainly due to I’m surrounded by large ag fields that they go to at night. But guess where they go every other time they get the munchies?
I went and looked and he took all of his videos down of the long range shooting. He had several of them that were pokes. And typically they were larger deer too- not just little guys or does.
Buy it. I’m debt free next month (paying off the current hunting property) and going to be in the market for something, the wife is against much traveling since we did that for years and have 2 little girls. But I’m in an ag area and everything is stupid priced- so we will see how much movement...
a local here did a video shooting a buck with his smokeless at 832 yards... dropped it stone dead... he does all kinds of "distance muzzleloader shoots", great shot, but doesnt give the deer a chance at all... (and he had several people with him as they hunt in a group during late muzzy)
Everyone says 1 buck state- “look at Ohio- it works”… but look how population changed for them. The simple thing Iowa needs to do- hear me out- no doe tags for 2 years unless you’re a youth hunter. Bet we’d already see some changes because there will be more deer
My local office said I cannot make money on it if it’s in CRP contract since I was getting paid… can hunt it all you want, but cannot make money. (I did however buy my last contract out and didn’t renew for other reasons)
My buddy owns the no bs traps you have- I will ask him some tips. He’s out in North Dakota/Montana trapping now, coming home and then I think heading south to Arizona maybe
I just told that to a buddy. I think up here they are kicking in the rut around Oct 25th now. Versus Nov 7ish. Hence why we have antlers dropping like crazy now already
I picked up the first shed back on the 15th…. Buddy had multiple shed on the 12th I think? Saw one yesterday with one side too- they are really dropping here already
Allamakee- we have shot zero does. Won’t shoot any on our pieces. Shot 2 younger bucks (youth) but that’s been it. Nothing super mature running around.
My home farm- shot one doe that was wounded from first gun… otherwise not shooting anything else even though they added tags in this county...
Oddly just looked at that today too- and I can’t imagine we will get that many more deer. Watched the neighbors push again next door, walking my fence row, not kicking anything out of any fence rows/brushy draws. They never fired a shot today (talked to them) and they have a youth that’s try to...
I always thought “I just don’t hear the shooting anymore”… the neighbors all run 350s with suppressors. You can barely hear them out there- they are the same ones who drove all my fence lines
Bills area has been heavily overkilled for years. We own ground not far away, its pretty rough. I know my neighbors let EVERYONE in because "the deer eat all the crops"... a lot of old time farmers that still have beef with deer.... I know the kid that Bill is using right now as his worker/video...
I had to fence my 2 acre patch off… once they find them and get to have a taste, it’s tough to keep them out (at least here). I don’t have a single one left out there as of yesterday.
