    Thor

Looks to me like he has AT LEAST a 170 inch mainframe, and those extras will add up fast. Wouldn't surprise me if he comes close to the bi-centennial mark. I hope you get to find out!

Disappointing first camera pull of the year

If you didn't get velvet pics of them last year, then I wouldn't worry about not getting them this year. They seem to stick close to one spot this time of year.

    River Levels

The Cedar is loooow in Linn county. Be ready to navigate sandbars, if at all. Go here, click on 'Rock Island District', then select the Cedar River basin for current levels. http://www2.mvr.usace.army.mil/WaterControl/new/layout.cfm Marietta Ohio? I grew up in St. Clairsville and went to...

    hatfields and mccoys

It has been fun to watch. Not really a slow part in it! I looked the feud up last night and the 'deaths' on this link seems to follow it pretty well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatfield-McCoy_feud

    Wet soils

Just plant it with a late crop after the wet sping weather is over when the river SHOULD be staying out of the fields. Plany turnips, radishes, oats, rye, etc during the correct times in July/Aug/Sept. Even if it does flood, you won't be out a whole lot if it doesn't survive a late season rise...

    Big catch for the weekend

@ nanny - yes, I asked if there was a way I could keep it, but he said it was a federal tag thing and he could not issue me one. I tried! And I will be interested to know the weight of that beaver! Fat sucker!

    Big catch for the weekend

Funny - I just started trying to trap beaver this past weekend! Set 4 traps on Saturday and had 2 small ones (about 20lbs) when I checked them on Sunday. Reset the traps and had another small one and a big otter when I checked last night. The otter was 48 inches long and weighed 27.4 pounds...

How many welcome Outfitters in Iowa???

Outfitters don't bother me. More Iowa residents 'lock down' their ground than can even compare to NRs or outfitters. Hunting ground comes and goes, it is a part of life. And if I owned ground and wasn't a hunter, why wouldn't I rent it out to an outfitter to make a few extra bucks as opposed...

    fertilizer

We have never taken a soil sample or applied lime. The only fertilizer we have applied was before planting corn plots. All our other plots (beans, brassicas, oats, rye, etc) have been just put in the ground and have done quite well. Would they have done better with lime/fert? Quite possibly...

    non-hunting related question

So I have a downspout that drains into a river gravel based flower bed, then any excess water is running over my sidewalk to the front door and is making an icy, slippery mess!! Any one have any simple ways to trench a tunnel under a sidewalk so I can run an extension off the spout and under...
