We are trying something new this year. We have about a 4 acre plot that we like to put beans in. We have a permanent shooting house that sits about 60 yards off of the plot. It has been there for years and the deer don't pay any attention to it.
It is virtually a gun only plot. It is...
I don't think I could afford all the Thermacell refill packets I would have to buy for a Florida hunt.
A hunt in the Arizona mountains sounds much more appealing (minus the snakes of course).
I will have to agree with LIV4RUT. If you have good food sources to hunt during the late season I would go that route. Also the late season will give you a little more time in the field. Although if you don't get at least average to below average temps the late season can be pretty tough.
I haven't shot a buck in several years, but I do find that I get a pretty good feeling when a 130-140" walks within bow range and continues to walk out of bow range. I am not sure that I need to have a 170", although seeing on of them gives me a good feeling too:D. I am more in the "you know...
I can see where this thread could go a lot of different directions . I will stick to the original intent. We have huge problems with beavers damming up creeks, and then almost any measurable rain event causes flooding in our bottom ground food plots.
One of our most productive (and...
Now you can try the best online hunting journal available today for FREE until August 31st. No strings attached. You will have access to every feature the journal offers: Enter hunts from years past, search and sort through all of your observations, enter trail cam observations, enter scouting...
That is right. We are the ones that buy the tags, and we are the ones who shoot the deer. The Gov and FB can legislate all they want, if hunters only harvest what your area can truly handle then license numbers really don't matter.
As a group we have to realize that we are not going to win...
I had my PB and laying hen out for youth season. We had 1 gobbler out of the 6 we saw come in. Unfortunately my 10 year old daughter missed. It was pretty exciting for both of us. I was sorry she missed her first chance, but I was kind of glad too. She got to experience a great weekend and...
If you are looking for a cool way to mount the skull when you are done check out skull-lok.com He has some really neat stuff, and he does custom work if you ask. He lives in Belle Plaine. I know him personally, and he is a really good guy.

I think the information collected by hunters is always a good thing, but I also think with the way technology is moving forward all the time (whether people like it or not), an online survey would be much more efficient. The other thing to think about is if we want the next generation of...
That is kind of what I was thinking. I could pattern it with whatever I want her to hunt with and then let her practice with a lighter load. You are right, I don't care what load you are firing at the bird, you don't feel a thing.
Thanks

I am taking my 10 yr old daughter turkey hunting this year. She has been going along with me for about 5 years, but has not hunted herself. She loves to go, and even has her own box call that she is pretty good with.
Anyway, a friend is letting me borrow his Rossi 20gauge youth shotgun. It is...
I think a choice would be good, but a fast as things are moving to online versions within 5 years or sooner it will be the best way to gather data like this.
I also think it ties in pretty well with Step Ahead Outdoor Solutions.;)
Thanks

I have a couple of questions for the Iowa bowhunters on here. They have to do with the Iowa Bowhunters Survey the DNR puts out.
1. Do you participate?
2. Do you get the form and not fill any thing out?
3. Do you send the form back every year or do you sometimes not get it in?
4. Do you...
Does anybody know if this one will be available to watch a another time? I probably can't watch it at work  and tonight I will be doing something with my daughter. She turns 10 today and I am sure she has other plans in mind.
Thanks
Dan
Check out www.skull-lok.com they have a pretty cool mounting system for European mounts. I know the guy that owns it and he will even do custom work if you want something. Iowa based too. They are in Belle Plaine.
