    Where to go?

I have an opportunity to choose where I want to go work and live. Which of the following counties would I have the best opportunity to find some deer ground either public or private access. The counties are Deleware, Cedar, Scott, Woodbury, Cherokee, Cerro Gordo, Franklin, and Osceola.

What to do, what to do

You might want to look at a Ripcord rest...its a really nice rest that is easy to tune and is a very quiet shooter...all the benefits of a wisker biscuit but with drop away accuracy

    Winners Choice

Unfortunately I accidently dry-fired my Hoyt Vulcan at about 3/4 draw in the bow shop and the string exploded on me. This was a fluke accident. The bow itself does not appear to be harmed but I ordered a new Winners Choice string. I have heard the quality of these strings are unmatched. Anyone...

    tree stand help please

If you are looking to pack it in a long distance the two things I would look at are first, the weight of the stand. Even though 15-25 pounds does not sound like a lot but it will take its toll on you, especially when you add in the rest of your gear. Second, it needs to be durable and quiet.

    First Turkey with Bow

Just thought I would share with you that I got my first turkey yesterday with my bow in South Dakota. Pretty excited about it. I shot a jake with my new HOYT Vulcan at 25 yards and it did a real number on it. If I can figure out how to upload the pictures I will post them later. Good luck to...

    New Hoyt's

I have shot the new line of bows from the big three (HOYT, Matthews, Bowtech) and I think I am going with the Vulcan by HOYT. With a 29'' draw and 70# I was shooting 288fps and its really quiet and versitle. All three are very comparable but I trust the Hoyt name and hasnt failed me yet.

    Cant decide: 60# vs 70#

I shot the Guardian today at Dakota Archery and the bow was set at 70#. I had little trouble drawing it but I thought there was a distinct breaking point. I would go with 70# and max it out.

    Pack of wolves attack moose

i would guess the pics were taken from a helicopter considering they appear to be taken from a great distance and from a highly elevated position.

    Who Hunts State Land??

With Iowa ranking in the lowest percent amoung the nation in amount of public land access I would have to agree about keeping your public land hunting spot a secret. I had an experience last fall where 5 out of state hunters came in and bowhunted for a week in the same area as I did. They also...

    More poacher problems

I am glad to see that they were caught and will be help fully accountable. I think that it is also important to publish the case in the news to send the message to other poachers that they are being watched and that the game wardens, hunters, and land owners will catch up with them.

    Void area

I sure hate to see that or have that happen to me. Atleast that pic. will relieve that hunter of him/her questioning themselves. Awesome pic.

    public land bucks

I have killed many smaller bucks on public land. Last year I was holding off for a trophy buck and didnt take a deer at all. This year I killed a nice buck last weekend on public land. It depends how much hunting pressure the land receives but I have seen some really nice bucks running around on...

    Shining

I do not think that it is illegal but I would not want to have a firearm or bow in the vehicle. As far as I know, there is nothing illegal about it.

    sad day for me

I would still report it to the local Game Warden. If the deer is as good as you say, then I am sure that this poacher will slip up somewhere and either want to mount it or tell the wrong person. Its always good to report cases like this and maybe the DNR will step up their patroling. Also, I...
