    New Clover Plot

How late in the spring is to late to try and plant some clover? I'd like to try and get a couple 1/4-1/2 acre clover plots established. Would a week to week & a half into June be to late? I know weather dependent etc with the heat and forecasted coming rain. I have some open areas I could spray...

    Am I to late?

I'd like to get some switchgrass screens established along the edge of some timber and the ag field. The length of where it would be getting planted was cattle pasture a year ago at this time. There is grass growing there. I dont really see hardly any broadleafs. Todays 5/12. I have done zero...

    4/25 Tom, new farm

I had one goal this spring. To get my dad on a tom. We went out for the first time this spring this past Saturday the 25th. It was also the first hunt ever on the new farm. I had been getting birds on camera almost every day, including pictures of strutters. There was never more than one tom...

    Good idea or no

I stacked up some square bales leaning against the platform of the blind. Good idea or not? Wasn't sure if maybe them leaning up against the wood would hold moisture from rain etc. and be a bad thing to be leaned up on the platform. The blind is on the crest of a hill, behind me the field...

    Looking for Cedars

I am looking for about 60-100 more small cedars that I can dig up and transplant for a screen. This is by hand/shovel so I want to keep them no bigger than a couple feet tall really or else the digging gets to be a bit much. Is digging them out of a road ditch seem like a good idea or not? I...

Cedar Spacing & Switchgrass Prep Spraying

This coming weekend I have a couple projects planned. 1. Im planning to hand transplant cedars along a border of my new farm. I have plenty of small cedars I can dig up and transplant. Im wondering how far apart I should space them. 2. I'd also like to try and get a jump on getting some...

    Tree ID

Shed hunting last weekend I noticed nearly every single one of these type of trees had a big nice rub on it. Not sure if that is because there wasnt much for rubbing size trees or if the bucks really liked this specific type of tree. Im thinking its some sort of crabapple? Maybe worth planting...

    What trees should I get?

I'm doing a cost-share program this winter/spring to do removal of multi flora and honeysuckle and then this spring will plant trees (bareroot seedlings) on about 4.5 acres along a creek bottom. The area is really thick in some spots with mfr and sporadic honeysuckle. There were a lot of ash...

    Brutal

I'm glad Im not a deer. Rut can be bruttle. This guy got his tail whipped. Busted off an entire antler, the pedicle area doesnt look good, I'd guess maybe a fractured pedicle base/skull plate. Lost an eye too. Looks all swollen around the eye area.

    Age Question

What age would you give these bucks? I have no history with them. The smaller racked buck seems to have a bigger body. The smaller racked also has some white/gray in his face, is that really even an age indicator on a deer? I'd guess maybe both 3. Maybe 4? Thoughts. Buck # 1: Buck #2...

    Spot Spraying Question

This weekend I plan to do phase one of a tree planting for next spring. Step 1 I have about 250 spots I need to spot spay where I will plant a bare root seedling next spring. Each spot spray location is supposed to be about a 3ft radius. The plan says I need 1.5%-2% glyphosate mixture. I'm...

    Mulching Seedlings

My first tree planting this spring is doing really well. Yesterday after turkey hunting I checked on most of my seedlings. 75 swamp white oak, 25 plum, and 25 white pine. Nearly everything is doing well, just one plum not leafed out and although I didnt check every oak I'd bet 95% + are leafing...

    3rd Season Tom

I was fortunate enough to fill my 3rd season tag Sunday morning. I had gone out Saturday morning on a different farm that I've fill a tag the past two seasons. It was good morning of hearing a few gobbles, seeing a dozen or so deer, and watching a coyote chase deer around in timber. I did have...

    Thorny Locust Removal

I have a quite a few thorny locust. From my research killing them isnt as simple as just cutting them down. Seems like I need to cut and treat the stump. What about girdling them? I couldn't find anything about that. Or anyone have good luck with just cutting them down? Anything less than 10...

    Tree Tube Options

I just ordered 75 swamp white oak and 25 wild plum from the state nursery. I'm a little sticker shocked at the price of tubing the oaks. -I've read that plum dont need to be tubed. Thoughts on that? -Anyone have experience with using corrugated tube versus a tree tube? Im sure tubing will...

    Hounds

I've seen it posted on here a few times. Coyote dogs or rabbit dogs etc. Ive seen some people wont stand for it and others say no big deal. Ive had trail cam pics the past couple years a couple times. It was always this time of year after the deer seasons. My thoughts was not to big of deal I...

    Multi Flora Removal

I'm hoping to get to work this weekend on a 6.2 acre cost share project working on removing mfr and honeysuckle. Doing basal bark spray on the mfr and cut on the honey suckle followed up with spraying the stump. I did 5 acres last winter. I've waited until the end of the week to try and get...
