probably a dumb question: but is there any real difference between these speed loaders and the plastic cylinders that 777 pellets come in? I have always kept these and just load my projectile backwards, and whatever powder charge I want behind. Is the speed loader basically the same thing?
Just a thought, and I haven't done this, but couldn't you use a 45 caliber bullet with the proper sabot in your 50? I know they make a whole lot of different sabots, you might be able to find one made for this. surely someone has thought of it before. That is if you are dead set on getting them...
I am somewhat leary of Mr Wakeman's ideas on ideal bullet design. I have read a lot of his articles, and have come to the conclusion that the deer that he shoots must have Kevlar hides and titanium bones. Ok an exaggeration, but in reality his perspective seems to be if your bullet cannot pass...
To each his own to be sure, and I have never done this, but the rifle that I changed out a scope on last year (a weatherby 300 mag I got from a friend years ago) had had locktite put on the screws and they would NOT come loose. Had to take it to a gun smith to have the screws drilled out. Now...
cool stuff fireman. I am glad you had better luck than the guy I heard about. how long are the spears that you chunk with that thing? cause from one of the pics you have up they look looooong.
The scope I put on it is a 2.5x9x50 simmons that I used to have on my weatherby 300 mag. I upgraded for a scope with longer eye relief, due to the scope occasionally making contact with my brow when I pulled the trigger on that rifle (not a whole lot of fun). I don't know the model, but I doubt...
sounds a lot like archery to me :)
I doubt very seriously that very many animals would even be hit with spears. however, if you are a sly enough to get close enough to get him with a spear, my guess is you have probably practiced this enough to be able to take him. What you would likely see...
I saw last year where a lot of people came around asking about guns that they should buy to get into muzzleloading. I figured I would share my experiences to date with the TC impact I bought for use this hunting season.
The trigger sensitivity on this gun was the first thing that impressed me...
So will 85 grains and a 245 grain powerbelt :) Just shoot the highest charge (up to manufacturer specs) that gives you an acceptable group, and doesn't kick you like a mule. Best of luck.
thanks a ton bowmaker...I really do appreciate the information. I have been doing a lot of reading since i made that post, haven't really had time to do much else though...been quite busy with work and such. I am thinking I am going to take your advice and go get a quality board for a lumber...
shovelbuck, I tell ya, that is a beautiful weapon there. As for buying you one, Ill make you a deal. If my bow building skills develop to the extent that I am a world renowned bowyer, Ill buy you one of those :)
a big thanks for the feedback guys. I checked out those resources that you all posted, and found some others of my own, and I think I have enough information to get started harvesting and drying the wood I will use. I will post more info as I get into that process.
That is a gorgeous bow that you have there. I am thinking that I am going to start simple and build what I guess is called a "self" bow. single, solid piece, no layering of wood for backing, ect. Gotta start somewhere. Im gonna read up on how to prep the wood, and hopefully I will be getting...
I have been toying with this idea for years, and have finally decided I am going to make a concerted effort to learn how to make a longbow. I admittedly, know precious little about this, besides what I have been reading in different areas. If any of you are familiar with doing this yourselves, I...
In my, admittedly, limited experience with CVA weapons (have shot and known people that shot 6 different examples) they seem to be hit or miss. My father has 1 that is unbelievably accurate, with the right load (240 grain powerbelt, 3 777 pellets) This thing shoots groups, within range, that...
well, for the sake of honesty, I didn't kill very many. It was more a way to get in a little "hunting setting practice" and reacquaint myself with the woods after a summer's absence. I did manage to pluck a few off of stumps and such. And of course, since I couldn't shoot them, saw some of the...
