    Just for off season discussion

Guido's Web and Muddy 20" sticks for me. I prefer the Web to any traditional stand for lots of reasons, safety, comfort, portability, stealth and many others. It may seem silly, but like my Web so much, that I use my permanent ladder stands just for the ladder, and hang from my Web at those...

    Need help with tracking

Congrats! The opening posts weren't very encouraging. I'm glad you found him and before the coyotes did too.

Rut hunt, Field edge or timber? Decoy?

I have two kills with a buck decoy. I've tried once with a doe, but saw no deer that night, so I can't really compare. My choice of bad location was the problem, not the doe decoy.

    Decoy

I've used my 3D whitetail as a decoy. I've been successful two years and counting, though the boy could use a new paint job. Looking a little faded.

    Moment of truth

I'm guessing it was nerves. Not from the buck itself, but from all that led up to the encounter, including all the pattering and the realization that it was coming together for a big opportunity. If we don't get excited about the whole experience, then it's time to quit. Good luck with him.

    Poison Ivy survey

I get it easily and it stays with me unless I treat on multiple fronts. 1. Long sleaves and gloves. Keep covered up. Try to not wipe my face with anything that's been in the weeds. 2. Shower and clean agressively after I've been out. Think like surgical clean methods. 3. Keep washing...

    Kitchenaid food processor (meat grinder)

Same here. Ground up the better part of two deer so far and some bear. Works pretty well, but not what you'd call a speedy process. Beats a hand crank without a doubt. Not as fast as a dedicated grinder, but not as expensive either. Before grinding, cut out the tendons as much as possible...

    Decoy?

Two years running... two bucks doubled-lunged both the result of a decoy. My decoy is a 3D target miniature with removable antlers, but it does the trick very well. Last year's success, morning of Nov 7th was up-wind about 20 yards facing directly or nearly directly at me. The buck came...

Guido's Web and tree saddle tips

So I bit the bullet and got a Guido's web. I was so enticed by the benefits, I had to do it, and have high expectations. http://guidosoutdoors.com/index.php/our-products For those who hunt from Quido's Web or saddles or Aero Hunters, what pointers do you have from your experience hunting...

    Elite Draw length

Here's also a link for Elite's manuals on-line. http://www.elitearchery.com/technology/manuals The 2014 manual, pages 9 and 11, show what adjustments can be made to stops/strings/cables and how it affects various bow characteristics. To my knowledge, this info is pretty much the same for all...

    Elite Draw length

The draw stops do affect the draw length but the primary purpose of the draw stop is to adjust let off percentage. Those two characteristics are linked together when you adjust the stops. Pick the let off you want and tweak the DL in other ways. The modules are in 1/2" increments. Most shops...

    Elite Draw length

Better to be too short than too long on the DL. You can fine-tune things by adding or removing twists from the strings and cables to get an exact length you are after. It's not hard to do but you will need a bow press.

    Swhacker broadheads

+1 on that. Magnus buzz cut stingers for me, and the arrows fly true on my bow. I've never it was good to rely on moving parts at the instant of impact.

    Future potential??

Your last photo almost makes him look like a different deer. It subtracted at least one year from what I was thinking.

    Future potential??

Agreed, very nice buck. I'm absolutely no expert, but how old do you think he is? With the inward-bowed front legs, and the way his head/face looks those seem to me to be indicators of some age. I'd be very interested to read what others think.

    Chicory

You may want to search around a little on that. I was thinking the same as you, thought I wanted to plant a solid chicory plot. Not that I'm an expert or anything, but there seems to be some mutual benefits of going chicory with white clover, since the clover will naturally fertilize the...

    2012 Elite Answer, 70#, 30"DL

I bought Jesse's Pure. http://iowawhitetail.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50018 Now I need to sell my Answer. Great bow, just that my huge wingspan needed a 31.5" draw length, and this could only go as far as 30". Smooth draw, quite, very little vibration, fast. Excellent condition. $400...
