10 reasons why I only use one stand all year

learn to hunt and kill monster bucks from the ground with a bow.
much more rewarding,
</div></div>One of the most memorable hunts in my life was sitting on a 3 legged stool up against a tree with no blind and taking a nice 8 point at 15 yds that had worked his way up the flat towards me. He looked my way several times and the buildup before the kill was intense as he stood nearby and I had to wait for the broadside shot.
That was going to be my new technique for hunting in IA if I had stayed there as it is the only way to film a hunt on your own. I had planned on building brush pile bunkers on the properties so that when I wanted to hunt them, I could set my ASAT or DB's into these pre-existing brush bunkers. A much better idea IMO than a same day setup and I am not about to leave a $250-$400 portable blind out overnight.

We do the LW and sticks as well. I do it just because A: I don't have the money, and B: I don't mind the set up.

I agree it can be more work and sometimes I've actually called in a buck by the scraping of the bark with the sticks, but a headlamp and putting up in the morning can actually warm you up a little and I actually enjoy the fact that you're mobile if you need to be.

I think everyone makes valid points and it sounds like each person will defend their way of setting up. If I had the money, I'd put tree stands everywhere and slip in, but I don't; so I'm forced to take pride in a set-up and enjoy making something work sometimes.

Hey, bucks aren't racist towards tree stands and sticks, so if one comes by and he doesn't see you and smell you, it's on!

Good thread, I enjoyed the reading.

So im not the only one thats had bucks coming running in when your in the middle of hanging a stand looking like a monkey f&#@ing a football. you suppose they think all the clutter is another buck making a rub? this has happend to me a number of times.

I think there is a need for both permanent sets and mobile sets.
i have both and use both and love hunting from both.

Ya the hole killing a giant buck thing was'nt challanging enough for me so I welcome all the things thrown my way that are intended to screw up my hunting. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif (not really) /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif
