Thread 'November 1'

I really wanted a halloween buck, but had to settle for the day after. The wind was supposed to be out of the north, but there was a lot of nw in there and it was ripping...blowing right towards the creek crossing...not ideal. I wasn't planning on calling, but got a little bored after my 3pm snack. It's not a super high deer density area so figured what the heck...let's see if there's anything in there. Shot this deer yesterday morning. If I’m honest I misjudged him for a bigger similar buck we have but I had about 3 seconds and one window to shoot. Anywho, he’ll eat good and scores 138 for team 5.

I enjoy seeing the kills on this post.Never really like the pretence of the contest being scored in inches. Kinda goes against everything we preach. ( And yes , I realize it's just for fun and not a big deal) just an idea.I thought may be more in line with dear management....

Would there be any opposition to A similar contest in the future ranking by age and or weight?

Oldest buck wins. Although not 100% accurate. Base it on the findings of the cementum tooth adging. I guarantee it will be an eye opener for many as it was for me.

Also could have a weight class which typically not always equates to age....

It would be fun to post previous picks and reasons why you think it is the age it is. There is always multiple opinions on everything. It would give us insight on different ways of thinking..... Even have a guess the age box per deer...

Congratulations to everyone that has been successful this season. And an even bigger congratulations to those still sporting a tag. Because they are holding out for their personal goal!!!

We can definitely try something else. Score was just easy to track and gets more people posting. I agree with what you’re saying though. Just hard to do an age thing I think.
 
Keep it the way it is. Guessing and testing for age is a synonymous approach in that if the deer I shoot isn’t 5 or better I made a mistake. This is Iowa whitetail not Iowa trophy whitetail.

Not everyone can “hold out”. Some have family, work, limited access etc issues. How about we keep deer hunting, and this contest, fun that continues to promote participation by everyone regardless of what they choose to kill. I don’t think it’s broken.

I like that they keep score on size but one could combine the contest to also give bonus points for age and weight. You could give a 50-in bonus for a 7 year old for instance. You could even subtract 20 inches for a 3 year old.
