Thought I would move your post to the harvest report area. Ghost

Well things came together this morning. This guy came in from behind me, with the wind I never even heard him until he grunted twice. So I turned around slowly and there he stood 10 yards away ears pinned back glaring at the decoy, then he started scraping the ground with his hoof. There was plenty of light as it was right at 8:00 so I got a very good look at him. I knew he wasn't a scoring machine but I could tell by the size of his body and his thick bases and messed up rack that he was an old monarch. I've always wanted to take an old gnarly buck and when he walked passed me on the way to the decoy at 12 yds everything went into automatic, Heck I don't even remember getting my bow off the hanger or attaching my release. The next thing I do remember was making a sound to get him to stop and putting my pin on his shoulder and sending a slick trick on its way.
He took off down the middle of the field and piled up about 150 yds smack dab in the middle, no tracking on this day!
The coolest part about him is that his left base is almost 8 1/2 inches around! His right G2 is 12" and the one on his left is busted off about 3/4 of the way up, and both main beams curve up.
Talk about character!
What a great hunt!
Here's how he laid, if you look close you can see the decoy in the far left. This was the first deer I've shot with the slick trick heads. I thought I'd get a little better penetration, but it did do the "trick" I guess!

It took me all I had to get him hoisted up into the nearest tree so I could go to work on him, what a gorgeous animal and a huge body to boot!

Thanks guys
A ton of things are going through your mind when a deer like that presents its self let me tell you! Things like, what the heck is behind me that just grunted so loud I almost crappedmy pants! "turn slowly" WOW were did he come from, wow look at that body, my gosh is he close "and pissed at my decoy". Look at those bases...man he doesn't have much for tines on that right side... Oh he's walking right under me... he's heading to the decoy..he's 12 yards broadside walking stiff legged with his ears pinned back! He's a horse....and then things just kind of go blank but yet everything is in automatic and overdrive you know what I mean. I don' know when I grabbed my bow off the hanger nor attaching that release to the loop "when did that happen??" Next thing you know you bleat, he stops, you pic a spot and that 5575 is on it's way! Hey were was that squeeze the release thought process anyways! Then he's off and running and you know you hit him hard, so I'm scrambling to get the video camera off the hanger and get him tipping over, and just do, COOL!

Yea I'm glad I made the unconscious choice to take him!
