Allegeny Chinquapin Trees shipped early.. NEED ADVICE..

Hey guys quick question.. in October I ordered 3 Allegeny Chiquapin Chestnuts from Willis Orchards. I messed up and didn't realize I was to pick a ship date and the default was to ship ASAP and I just received them Friday. I'm located in southern warren county IA , any advice on how to keep these trees till spring to plant? Any luck on putting in pots and using a plant light or going out and trying to plant now? I haven't been out to the property yet to see if the ground is frozen solid yet.. also only dark cool place I have to try to keep dormant is a old garage that's Maybe a touch warmer than outdoors... thanks in advance

I’d either get them in the ground where u want them. yes, I know it’s hard & cold but it’ll thaw hopefully sometime enough to do it! Or I’d bury the pots. Protect in both cases. Garage is fine- just keep them from: drying out & freezing through pots & getting super cold. I lost some when it got like 5-10 degrees & the pots were not below ground.

We got snow cover before the ground froze, so I'm betting it wouldn't be that hard to dig a community hole as Rob mentioned. If left in pots in a garage, I'd be afraid of them getting freeze dried over winter.

Right , I was thinking the same thing about the snow cover before the deep cold working as an insulation. How close can I plant them together in said community hole?
