Altoona Hunter Injured While Hunting Deer in Polk County

DES MOINES - John D. White, 46, of Altoona, was hit in the arm by a shotgun slug while hunting deer Sunday afternoon north of Polk City.

White was in a large group of 20-25 hunters when another member of his party took a shot at a running deer. The slug entered White's left arm in the bicep area, possibly after having passed through a deer first.

White was taken to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines where his injury was believed to be non-life threatening.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

ANOTHER pass through on a deer first???? :thrwrck:

I am actually good friends with a guy who was shot this way. He and the other "standers" were all in line facing the timber being pushed. A deer broke out and was running parallel to the the line of standers. The stander next to him was about 75-100 yards away and when he fired at the running deer the slug actually entered the deers skull did a 180* glance, left the deer and struck my buddy in the thigh missing his main artery by a thread. He painted the snow red that day and has never party hunted since.
