Anyone Hunting Water Sources?

The Silence

Since the weather has been fairly warm, and at least in the Ames area, we haven't had much rain I wanted to see if you think hunting near a water source would be a good strategy? Another thing, when deer get up from their bedding areas in the evenings, do they normally get a drink first before they head to food sources?

I'm no expert, but where I hunt, I can almost guarantee deer coming to the pond for a drink every night. After their drink, walk through the gate through the pasture, hop the fence into the alfalfa field. Like clockwork.

Have seen them going to water sources also in the evening, when I have hunted the stand near a pond.

I hunt by a lake and a river and i havent seen any activity near them. 2 years ago when i shot my deer thats on the wall you could tell he crossed the river before he came to my stand! But i havent seen and deer around it. Tons of prints but i havnt seen them

And i have a question. Is it the wider the buck print the bigger the deer? Thanks
