Our food plot lays out like this 1 acre of rye & peas. 3 acres of alf alfa, then 2 acres of clover. We baled the alf alfa last year. and plan on baling the rye this spring. Can we bale the peas in with the rye? and Can we bale the clover for the livestock as well? if so, should we bale it separate or is it okay to just run in with the alf alfa?

Heck...we used to bale corn stalks to feed the beef cows in the winter ,so yes you can bale all of the items you mentioned.

If you bale to sell, then alfalfa will be worth the most and I would keep it seperate just because of marketing but to feed ones on livestock it really doesn't make a difference.

Clover makes great hay if you don't let it get to mature it just might sell for slightly less then alfalfa.

Peas are a great food source regardless if using the green foliage or the dried peas and is often used for hay when mixed with oats, triticale or rye.

Rye will mature very quickly in the spring, so be prepared to mow and bale it very early for the best feed. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
