I was just allowed access to land near a food source that the deer seem to be hammering right now. Yesterday I went in to take a closer look around and found a couple of nice size beds made by a large buck since the snow started flying the last week. From what I can tell the deer are traveling up to this area in the evenings. How would you explain these larger beds when there is a lack of doe sized beds in the same area? Would it be possible that the buck is traveling from a farther distance to start with and then just holes up there for the night and then takes off again in the morning. I just don't want to go in and disturb the area too much. I might be able to get close to the nearby farm house and see what I can observe from there, but I still need to be careful because it's only situated about 50 yards from this place. Could this cold weather be triggering this behavior? Or this nearby farm? I would love to hear your thoughts so I can put together a game plan.
