Best Hunting Videos

What's your opinion of the best ones out there? Primos, Realtree, WKP, Drury, Kisky, Extreme, etc, etc? Maybe you like some of them BUT think there's still room for a lot of improvements?

I don't watch new ones often, my brother bought the new Drury video this weekend. I like the deer BUT the guys and their approach are just so CHEESY to me, that's just my opinion of course, I just can't watch more than 10 minutes without shutting it off or rolling my eyes. How do they manage to recruit 100% cheeseballs, I mean almost every guy/gal on there just makes me want to shut it off (so I do, just my opinion of course).

Who is the most realistic, who can you relate to? Do the guys hunt exclusive 2000 acre pieces and tell you "we're hunters just like you" OR do they really hunt 80's and 120's like you do? Who's the best and why? What would you like to see?

I think the double bull videos are my favorite to watch because it seems like those guys are having a blast. If I watch any of the other videos out there, I just fast forward to the hunts and put it on mute /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I don't like any of them! Just kidding!

Since I have videoed my own hunts I have a lot of respect for anyone who videos. It's harder than it looks. That 5-6 minutes you see spliced together of my hunt is a short glimpse of what took me 365 days to get to that moment. I've always felt my raw footage is better than any footage that is on a DVD or TV show. Again though they are limited to the amount of time they have to tell the story. I on the other hand have all the time in the world, so 20 to 30 minutes for a whole encounter to unfold is easy for me.

Twice the scent in the tree, twice the movement and twice the the chance to blow things. In the end it's worth it! I just spent yesterday watching 4 years worth of raw footage. I can't wait to get back in the tree for a chance at a few bucks I've watched mature into really nice bucks.

I have bought videos and dvd's since they came out. Lately though I have still bought them, but I haven't watched many of them at all and if I do I usually fast forward through them to just see the buck.

For those of you that mentioned Whitetail Freaks thanks for the kind words.

I own a ALOT of videos. Couldn't even tell you how many is in my library right now. As for deer hunting videos, I really only watch them to see the deer. My family has watched them over and over again. I can honestly say its helped myself, my wife and my son be able to react to and judge real deer in the wild. With that being said, we just added the Realtree Monster Bucks 16, vol 1&2 to the collection and these videos have some of the best bucks I've seen on any for some time.

Out of all the videos, I prefer the Truth Series by Primos.

Granted they hunt primo private land, but they do not put cut-ins into the footage and you see everything first hand as it happens. I learned alot watching their elk hunting series and if you ever go elk hunting watch some of these videos to learn some good calling tips and advice.

I will also give a plug for WKP. Bought their video this year and its was pretty cool. Different then others and its probably similiar to what many of us do annually, scouting, shed hunting, stand prep, hunting and harvest stories.

I would say the Drury Videos are my third pic, they have some story lines which are interesting but they also have a pile of cut-ins which I really can not stand. They also plug their sponsors over and over and over which gets old after a while.

The Real Tree and Hunter Speciality Videos are my least favorite. All guided, lots of cut-ins and its mostly killing and you do not get much for story lines or actualy hunting knowledge.

Denny Sturgis/Darryl Quidort and Bill Langer, traditional archery hunting videos.

I find them down to earth.....enjoyable overall. No horn porn involved, they do utilize outfitting on some hunts, but it's more of a do it yourself approach. Good values and enjoyable attitudes. Footage of family members and friends taking game. They are more than competent hunters and they have some excellent footage / productions. They always portray the hunt is more important than the kill, but it's not overly sappy, there's lots of dead animals on their vids.

I'm going to throw a vote out for Whitetail freaks with the Kiskys. A great group of people and a great video, along with some sweet footage and BIG bucks!

I love the stories behind the hunts from Drury's and I love the big deer from the Kisky's. As far as everything else, I just watch the big bucks to pass time.

Our team, Outreach Outdoors, will have one coming out hopefully in July...so I do know how much effort goes into producing one of these things, so my hats are off to all who pursue such a venture. It is a long and tedious process (not to mention you have to capture it all on film!).

Wildlife Paparazzi videos.

If you really like watching a video that is really about the animals and not about the hunting this is it. I have seen most of Brians films and they are awesome. Brian takes alot of pictures for the magazine Big Buck.

For just plain ole hunting vids I like the Prime Time vids.

I like the Primos Truth series too. Over the shoulder as is happens. No rehearsing, no dual cameras (one watching the hunter too). Best of all, no editing other parts into the hunt.

I started buying some videos way back in the early 90's. Drury's original Monster Bucks is my fav. Don Kisky is just a kid and misses a huge buck at 10 yards. His reaction is genuine and priceless. Jay Gregory is also a kid on this one and a pleasure to watch. I still like his stuff. I've have bought very few videos in recent years as they have become too "slick" for my tastes. I actually don't mind advertising as long as it is presented as such. Trying to incorporate plugs into the actual hunting scenes is a huge turnoff. Please, you guys making new vids, eliminate the fist pumping, screaming until you about fall out of the stand. It would be nice to see quiet reverance for a great animal for achange. I've seen some scenes where the hunter let's it slip that he's actually more happy to have captured it all on film, so he can get a paycheck, than he is enjoying the hunt.
Worst moment on a vid in my opinion. Stan Potts shooting that big non-typical on H.S.. He took a shot with the buck head-on to him. His first words were,"Normally I would never take that shot but the buck was so huge." Great ethics lesson for all the kids watching. From that point on I have fast-forwarded every hunt of his. Sorry to turn this into a rant, didn't start out that way. I'm just old and grumpy this morning!

I'm not real big into hunting videos but i got on the Primos site and they have a whole list of videos you can watch for free. They are pretty cool videos. The only video i own is The Truth 15. Big bucks. Very good video IMO.

Drury is the industry standard setter, best video production on the market if you ask me.

Primos is also one of my favs!

i love deer videos...... /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I really hate the videos that never show a miss or a messed up hunt.

I really like the videos that show that even the pros screw up every now and then and miss a big buck at 10 yards or blow a setup.

I am not partial to any certain video, but I hate the Buckmasters with a passion that burns deep within, but that is for a different post.

I would never buy a Hunting video. I have looked at a few online. One was on theMossy Oak site. A recap of some season for someone. All it showed were animals being hit, hunching up and running away. Disgusting to me. I emailed, got a good reply. I have taken the lives of many deer, lost count,,but I still do not like to see an animal suffer. A few times I have shot thru a deer that showed no reaction. I know they can tolerate more than us. If I were to make videos, I would not show the impact. I guess the shot placement is somehow important, but I would rather see the preperation, scouting, and tracking tactics. The animal being hit by a projectile, I don't need to see. I know what happens. I know I am in the minority though.

I like to watch some big buck videos when the season opens to get pumped up a little but what i cant stand is when they have a feeder or corn on the ground to bait them in or they show you clips of monsters that go 160 plus then shoot a 115 inch buck and go on about the body size.shoot a doe she eats better and the buck will grow just my 2 cents.

I enjoy Drury's, Freaks, and Gettin' Close. I think what ties them all together is the story lines presented in the videos, I enjoy seeing some more behind the scenes footage and documentation of bucks. They make it look real easy is what we've learned!

for me I like to be entertained. Many reasons why I like what I do but here you go.

I will go with the Whitetail Freaks Series as being one of my favorites. Good hunts, quality deer, and hunters putting the arrow/bullet in the proper spot consistently without taking poor shot angles.

The Drury's kill big deer and a lot of them, overall I like watching their videos but the "I smoked him with my PSE X-force" and "couldn't have hunted this setup without my scent blocker suit" crap gets real old real fast. I know they have to have sponsors to keep things rolling but there is a much cleaner way to plug them (all in the beginning and end of the video or even cut away in the middle and discuss why you use certain products is much more appealing).

I like the way WKP puts their video together, I think a few more deer on the ground could put them up there with the big dogs.

Like others have mentioned, filming is tough, finding sets that are comfortable for the hunter and camera guy, packing all the crap in, 2x the scent and movement, etc, etc. is a pain in the rear. However, something about being in the tree with a good friend or family member seems to make the hunt a little more special.
