Big 10

I hunted my parents farm in Winneshiek Co for the first time this year. It's about an hour drive from my house so I don't hunt it often. Climbed in the virgin stand I hung last spring at 3PM. Saw two bucks (8 & 9pts) ten minutes after climbing in. Saw another buck (130" 10 pt) about a half hour later and then saw a bruiser about 80 yds away in some thick brush. Got a good look with my binos and knew he was a shooter. Grunted twice and clicked my antlers together lightly; he looked my way but moved back into the thick stuff where I couldn't see him. Still early so I didn't grunt anymore as didn't want to give away my location. At 4:35 the same 9 pt I had seen earlier and a 6pt were tailing 3 does and came right under my stand. The bruiser in the brush 80 yds away was still there and couldn't stand his does getting chased by the younger bucks. He came trotting out of the brush and headed right for me. I stopped him at 18yds broadside and drilled him. Hit a few inches high but right behind shoulder. Not much blood but knew it was a fatal shot. Waited an hour and followed very little blood for 150 yds. Decided it was best to wait until morning. No more blood next morning but was pretty sure I knew the area he was in (cedars and thick brush). With the help of my dad and my two kids we found him in 30 minutes of combing the thick stuff; although with no blood to follow it felt like 2 hours looking for him. Perfect 10 pt with 12"+ G2's and G3's and 8" G4's. Rough scored him at 170 5/8".
