Three Escape Injury Following Boat Explosion on Mississippi River

PRINCETON – Three Sterling, Ill. residents escaped injury Sunday morning after the boat they were in exploded on the Mississippi River near Princeton.
Jason Bardoner, 36, his seven-year-old son and Jennifer Hadaway, 29, were all able to escape the boat uninjured after the vessel exploded and burned as it was being started.
The three were camping on a beach along the river when Bardoner attempted to start the boat at approximately 9 a.m. Sunday. It is believed that a ventilator used to remove gas fumes near the engine did not run long enough before it was attempted to be started. The boat had just been filled with approximately 100 gallons of fuel the night before.
The 30-foot long pleasure boat was moored along the beach when the incident occurred and all three occupants were able to escape to shallow water after the explosion. The boat appears to be totally destroyed.
