Bobcat sighting

Now for some of you this may not be that big of a deal, but for me it made my whole saturday hunt (since I didn't see any deer except the one my nephew put in the back of the truck). I was in my new ground blind and I saw my first ever bobcat in the wild, what a sight, I'm also real confident about my blind since the cat didn't see me jumping around going "I thot I taw a puddy kat, I did I did"

Saw one last year and came within a split second of sticking an arrow in him. Only later did I discover that 1) I needed a furbearer's permit to shoot one, and 2) the season on bobcats in Nebraska didn't open for another month and a half. That could have been a double whammy of fines!!

I've seen about six or seven of them, but everytime you see one it's just like seeing one for the first time simply AWSOME!

I filmed one 4-5 years ago while in a ground blind...nearly fell off my seat when it came by

This summer my wife pulled in the driveway one evening and one ran across in front of her "with a bunny in it's mouth" (her words...

I have yet to see a bobcat around our place, but I have seen badgers off and on and they are pretty exciting to see. I seen one sunday night while I was hauling in beans. Had to stop and watch it a bit.

Over the past several years I have seen many Bobcats out of the deer stand and also while driving deer during shotgun season. I really think that in the near future you will see the season open up on them. As I am a trapper as well as an avid hunter I hope this happens so that I can get one mounted. As these pictures show they are beautiful creatures. I hope everyone will soon have the opportunity to see these animals roaming wild.

PS - This cat was turned loose to live another day!

FUNNY!!!

I had one sniff the ladder of my ladder stand last year and then he chased and caught a rabbit 40 yards in front of me in the CRP. Also saw a mom and two little ones last weekend on Sunday morning in Ringgold County in southern Iowa. Pretty cool.

I'll just be patient and wait for Iowa to open the season. It won't kill me to wait. I wouldn't feel right taking one across the border.

I do alot of trapping too. We don't have to turn them loose.

Did you use a snare pole or plywood (with a notch cut out )to let him go. I know he didn't roll over on his back til you let him out.

I saw one tonight- my first ever! I'm pretty sure it was a juvenile. However, it was trying to stalk/chase a 1 1/2 year old buck. They squared off for a few minutes 20 yards from my stand before the 'cat moved off. Made my night!

I edited a video clip monday night for a friend that had one walk under his stand over the weekend (10/15/06). He was able to get about a minute and a half of video.

I can't wait to see one. Are there many in the Johnson/Cedar county area? I'm thinking they are more southern.

Patrick, Was your friend in the CR area?

I came in from hunting this morning and my wife said she saw a bobcat walk across the driveway again.

I showed her these pics and she said "yep...that's what it looked like"

Our place is loaded with rabbits so I'm sure it doesn't plan on leaving

The first time we had to let one go I'll admit we were puzzled for awhile. When our hounds get caught in a trap we throw a heavy coat over them, so they cant bite us while we get them out. We were going to try this method but noone really wanted to grab the cat.(he was not happy) A friend remembered seeing someone use the plywood with a notch for the leg on TV. Thats what we used and it seemed pretty slick. People in my area couldn't beleive we turned it loose, we couldn't see killing it just to turn over to the DNR. He does look nice and cuddly in the pics (he sure didn't look cuddly when you got within about 10 feet) Coyotes , Fox, and just about everything else we catch are very timid and pull away as you approach, not this cat he stood his ground ready for a fight!
