Borers on fruit trees:

I have all my fruit trees wrapped for rabbit/mice protection. I unwrapped one because I noticed it was not vigorusly growing. Upon taking the wrap off I saw the bark had been chewed up for some time. Think I may lose the tre. So I took wrap off all my other trees. Am going to put cages around them of hardware cloth instead so I can watch. Neighbor said to watch for little piles of sawdust. You will then have to dig the critters out with a knife. Some kind of wasp lays the eggs on or into the bark. Has anyone had experience with them? Up in Northern MI where I came from,,no such trouble.Lot better HUNTING though! Have to put up with the Borers.

Haven't ran into any borers yet but i use chicken wire or hardware cloth around mine which seems to work the best.
