I will use a 64" hickory flat bow with rawhide backing 64# @ 27", home made flemish twist string with beaver string silencers, cedar shafts with cool spiced fletch, Zuwickey heads, and a homemade hip quiver. Shoots a blazing 160? fps and inside 20 yards= dead deer.

Hey Rackaddict - I noticed you said "without the string dampeners"

Did you simply take them out or did you have to do something special?

I shoot an Outback as well and have always blamed the dampeners for making my bow just a little too noisy. I may be wrong but it's all I can think of that would produce this type of noise is the string slamming agianst those dampeners.

Be interested to know why you removed them and how you did it?

I have seen comp.target shooters remove them. There is a picture on one of the Mathews forums that shows a picture of a string as the arrow had just left the rest. Without the dampers the string almost hits the rest! Its amazing to me how much the strings flex foreward after the release. I think I'll leave mine on. I don't know why they would be noisy unless they are worn badly?
