hey I have a big favor to ask. does anyone semi close to UNI have some type of acreage or anywhere with a shed that me and a buddy can "operate" out of. I am talking like a place we can clean ducks and operat a trap line out of (skin and stuff). I cant really offer any money..cuz I have no one. but If you I could help with some odd jobs or something. Its just my apartment really does not have an appropriate place. It also be nice to have somewhere to hang a deer for a night.

I remember shooting a pheasant with my bow from my balcony appartment at Gold Falls. That was 21 years ago.

Jonny and i used to bone out deer, clean our shotguns, and all that great stuff, but nowadays, id be extra careful....
big knives and guns in the dorm rooms might lead to trouble

ill tell you one thing, if you want to make friends...
buy a cheap crock pot and start making roasts.... you willl be the most populat guys on campus....
Jon and i got pretty good at feeding a floor of hungry guys...

we went through several deer in a semester....

oh the college days....where have they gone?

Yeah, I remember getting some funny looks freshman year when I pulled up in front of my dorm with a buck in the back of my truck.

Only 4yrs ago for me.

My freshman year of college was in Ely, Minnesota. Hit a deer with my car and my neighbors went and got it and cut the backstraps out of it on their porch. Pretty wild but good eatin.
 
Once upon a time,in a not so sober state of mind, I too consumed several prime fresh venison at college.

The last, I drug up to the top floor at Waldorf, in Forest City-ungutted. No problem we had a huge shower in the can with plenty of room to hang a deer. After boning out and consuming the entire deer in one night, with much help, we basically ah--passed out, kinda like the Vikings did centuries ago.You know conquer, pillage, drink, eat and sleep. Well we were rudely awoken at noon to a very loud out of control cleaning 65 year old cleaning lady, who just happened to believe that someone had been MURDERED(as the DEAN explained it to me so nicely), on the fourth floor. She darn near had a heart attack when the wall to wall red "paint" covered the shower stall and the garbage can was full of what used to be inside the deer.

No expulsion but pretty darn strict probation on my part-had to help Mary the cleaning lady clean a few dozen bathrooms. Ya know it was worth it-God I loved College- that old lady would lurk around those bathrooms wether we were in the shower or on the thrown anytime she wanted--but that one morning sure turned her life around and I still Laugh a lot about the crap we got away with. I think for the most part she liked her time in the Boys dorm too.

M350...that is ridiculous....ridiculously hillarious!!! wow the crap a student would get in now for that would be unreal....great story though!!!
 
Never did a full deer in my apartment in college.

Grouse/Rabbit/Pheasant Stirfry and several packages of venison fed a few classmates several times.

Man, gundog, your post brings back some great memories. I attended Central Michigan University(Go Chippewas!!). My roommates and I hunted all the time there. We skinned, broke down, and packaged 2 deer one year. There was one tree in between two apartment complexes. We could keep an eye on the deer from our window. Well, it was late one night, and all we heard was screaming. Two girls were cutting through between parties. All drunk, and having a good time. That is, until they hit the haunches of the deer that was hanging there. They screamed for what seemed like forever. We just looked out the window and laughed as they ran away so fast!! Shortly afterwards, they brought about 10 other girls around to look at it. that's when my roommate got his "town" clothes on!! I never seen someone brag about a 4 point like he did!! Good luck in school and with your season! And remember... hunters are better in the bush.

I'm about 30-40 minutes away from the UNI dome gundog, send me a PM or something if you're interested. always got room for one more hangin' from the rafters in the garage. got a heated shed out back too.
 
we got a garage (real small) that we're going to hang our deer in. got it all setup and ready to rock. I'm sure if it can hold up my big deer than the ones you shoot will be fine!...let me know if you need it.

When I first moved up here to teach 8 yrs ago I moved in with 3 jokers I went to university with in an old house. I think we put 8 deer on the ground that yr between the 4 of us and everyone one of them was was skinned and hung off a basketball hoop in the front yard. I'm sure b/w that and the late night carrying on playing crib and kaiser we weren't he most popular group of young guys on the block......except for with the neighbourhood dogs.

Wouldn't trade my life for anything now but those were some great days....my year at 401 Bauman street.

And everyone of those carcasses had to come inside to the bathtub to thaw out for butchering.
