I have a question. Why do large numbers of deer congregate near and around cities? I live in Ames, and on any given night, I can drive down Stagecoach Road (1/4 mile East of town) and see 30-40 deer. I can also drive down gravel roads by one of the farms I hunt (1/2 mile South of Boone) and count 50-100 deer in the fields. Both of these counts can be done from the road. Then when I make my way to the out to the country, I'm lucky to see 5-10 deer where there are no people within a square mile. What gives?
