Climber vs. Standard Treestand

Just looking for opinions on a new treestand...

I hunt mostly in north central Iowa along a river in thick timber. I would kinda like a climber but I am concerned about finding trees it will work well in. Is this a big problem for anyone???? Any suggestions on models and such would be great. If anyone has one for sale post it here as well...
Thanks
Joe

Joe,

I hunt very near you and have never used a climber in 25 years of deer hunting. I know there are probably a few places they would work, but most trees where I hunt would require a bunch of trimming to be suitable for a climber. Picking a good hang on or strap on portable would be my best advice for our area. If you're hunting private land there's no substitute for a well built permanent stand in a time-proven location. Good Hunting!

Just my experience here but it seems to me the places with thick timber are the best for climbers. The trees don't have a chance to limb out because it's so thick. Unlike an open area like a pasture or park area, where you see all the tree's being very full of limbs. In four years of using a climber I have never been unable to hang a stand within shooting range. I do carry a saw but have only used it once on a small limb. I would go out (in thick timber) and look around. I think you will be suprised how many straight clear trees there are.
Hope this helps
Frank

I have had real good luck in central iowa carrying a small hangon and a api quickstick. For all our screwed up trees!!!
