Was it a cougar near Malcolm?

</st1:State>Nebraska wildlife officials are investigating a reported mountain lion sighting near Malcolm and say they have some evidence to help them.
Investigators will examine hair left at the scene to determine if it belongs to a big cat.
A woman and her daughter reported seeing the animal Tuesday in a pasture about two miles west of Malcolm in southeastern <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Nebraska.</st1:State>

They told a <ST1<st1laceName w:st="on">Lancaster</st1laceName> <st1laceType w:st="on">County</st1laceType> sheriff's deputy they first thought it was a deer. But as they got closer, the woman said it looked more like a mountain lion, although it was about the size of a Labrador retriever.
Mountain lions -- also known as pumas, cougars or catamounts -- have been spotted in <st1:State w:st="on"><ST1Nebraska</st1:State>, although they aren't common. There have been 46 confirmed sightings since 1991.
