Strange deal on my 5 acres of CRP. The last contract was 220. Its a filter strip along the river.(I was going to take it out when it expired because I heard that the contract offers were down)(It expired this year)But turns out mine went up for some reason. 300 bucks an acre. I guess for 300 we re going to leave it enrolled.

What county are you in? Im assuming 300 is the max

Buffer strips will often see the highest, even maxed out, rates because of their direct effect on water quality. We did 7ac spring and got the max as well
That's true, but cropping history still applies.
I re enrolled 18a of riparian buffer strip a week ago, only paying $81/a due to no crop history.

What program did you enroll into without coping history?
Sorry guys, I could've been more clear. This buffer strip is on a different farm in southeast Nebraska, not the Iowa farm with iffy cropping history I alluded to earlier in this thread.

That is a CP-43. A lot of forbs in the mix, some switch, blue and indiangrass but not the higher %s you'd want in something for deer bedding. For the area it is on that farm, we were fine with that tradeoff for more $. We also did a planting through Pheasants Forever next to it that is all tall grass prairie. No cropping history on that area. They paid for establishment costs plus $80/ac annually on a super simple 3 year contract.

I’ve never heard of a 3 yr contract ?

it’s somehow been a year+ since I’ve been in. So much better, even with the lower rates!!!!! :) ;)

Keep this in mind… say your CRP rate 4 years ago was “$225” (making this up) & now it’s $150 …. In these tougher to farm areas or fields…. The last year - it’s been a lot tougher cash renting things out. Like - if a guy used to be able to get $250 4 years ago…. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if guys offered $150-175 in cash rent. So- CRP might be down but often times, cash rent is as well. Especially on iffy mixed farms that are harder to farm.

Is that new in the past few years ? I did find that online for Nebraska… interesting!
Not sure how new it is, maybe last few years? I know their "corners for wildlife" program has been going on for a long time and this is basically the same thing but this applies more broadly. Not just pivot corners. They were great to work with and it was super simple.
